Wasn't part of the track bulldozed make way for equine show jumpers so any person interested have to rebuild someof the grounds plus cost of purchase.also did maywood sale go thru purhase offer was in place anyone know?if it's on its way back lots of money can be made there pools were always flush

I wonder if the group that bought it had to sign something that they could not sell it to harness horsemen ?

Why would it matter who they sell it to when you have a property for sale you don't put restrictions on money and the Johnsons are out of business they can't know can't touch any part of any race race track because of their bankruptcy and all their legal issues OTB they had also had to close too I think it would be a welcome sight to have someone take over the area take over the Hub because there was good money in the pools in Chicago some will argue that it is Tainted because of all the cheating but show me a track that doesn't have cheats and people that juice their horses everywhere in the United States it happens every day you just have to be fortunate and on the day that you pick one and one you get a good price on a big bomb to get you a Payday look at the fines and suspensions both for Canada and the United States week after week month after month there's constantly people getting in trouble for adding something extra to their horses

The place makes more money parking new cars for dealerships then they handled the last 3 years at the windows when they were open.

Close to a million dollars a night in the pools in betting and wagering on track and simulcast money parking cars really the best you can come up with the pools are at Hawthorne are very much lower than what they were at Balmoral there is a very drastic difference look at the pool totals for Hawthorne short on horses don't have 10 every race and whoever books books the races needs a new job the classes are all screwed up and most of the time you have a 20 claimer horse running against ends blowing them out every week or if the horse go somewhere else they fill it full of crap and you can't get a decent price an open race is filled with a bunch of 10 to 15 claimers and the only couple open horses get horrible spots and a way over bet for there race records and there is no incentive for trainers to ship horses and bring them here for races because there's no extras no bonus

I could take my Texas Walkers out of the barn put a harness on them and win the Free For All at Hawthrone

Perfect example Casey Leonard dads horse trashy tongue talker in the open with only seven horses but several weeks in a row still still starting from post 10 the last one was $0.20 on a dollar I believe and still won for fun the next week no one else entered the open but 10 to 15 claimers free for all still didn't get a price cuz of the poor quality of the race

That's the racing offices fault at Hawthorne not anyone else's they don't attract any quality horses they did the first year when they started harness but not since then have you seen any horses ship in and some trainers that were established here or no longer here so if you're so adamant about it why don't you enter them and try and see how easy it is all I'm saying is there's a difference in the product between Balmoral and Hawthorne you can say whatever you want about how they ran Balmoral but the racing office put good races together

Until This Issue Is Resolved In The Courts , Balmoral Park And Other Locations Across The Country Will Continue To Hold These Volkswagons !!!!

Moon is correct. I don't see this track or Maywood seeing the light of day racing again. Why would they without any casino support. There will be nothing coming in the form of sports betting so why waste your money. Someone going to live off the recapture payments. NOT. Also Arlington and Hawthorne have control of dark days and recapture. Never going to happen.

No way Balmoral up 4 sale! They just had a article in Cranes Chicago Business magazine how gd the owners doing, said he lost money last year, but was gonna break even this year but watch out in the future after that considering how much money the guys put in to the place, he's practically redone almost everything there is to be done.
I would love nothing more than to see Balmoral come back as a Harness track but its never gonna happen!
On another note Hawthorne sucks! No AC, they Charge you for Parking, They Charge you admission, no wonder they don't do worth a Damn!

Balmoral Park never allowed to have any gambling there because of the Johnstons. They really fucked up harness racing here and all deserve to die.

Wasn't there sale pending of maywood approved bye the court to backers in Vegas along with some local Chicago guys ok maybe Balmoral is not on the future but maywood could be with in a year reopened pools are good everyone will get a slice of the pie in due time for sports betting deals already being made across country now just down to politics and how gready states get on there percent

I agree things at Hawthorne suck product the way there running things too the only reason they agree for harness was to stick it to the Johnsons for what was done to them long time ago they have gone back on every promise since signed the deal lower purses lower wages lower handle but Balmoral and maywood were steady fields and full pools if mawood was to reopen I'd be playing there constantly money to be made better then 7horse fields at Hawthorne or1-5every other race

The Galt family owns that piece of land. The Johnston's had a lease to race their meet. The brick and mortar was owned by the Johnston's which went to the casinos for payment. I forget if it was sold or who currently owns the rights to anything on that land. There is nothing in the landscape of additional gaming on the horizon. Rahm Emanuel all but killed any residing gaming bills that are on the table because he wants Chicago to have a bigger cut then what is proposed. It will come up again during the spring session. The new difference may be with a new governor or the current one. I won't hold my breathe. People have been clamoring for a gaming bill or hand out for over a decade. Slots are coming ngc3

Hawthorne can be sold to existing companies next to it .
Purchase the updated Balmoral property which is now a showcase horse property. Hawthorne can survive on horseracing/sport gambling
