I think that might be changing soon. Apparently WEG was upset with the Norm McKnight story in the Toronto Sun. From what I heard they didn't want the story to go to print and it did. But let's be fair WEG is the place where they race so as I always have said this is all on AGCO they are supposed to do the barn checks, out of competition checks and testing.
that was a good read.....thanks for the reference

That article was something and the comments on the article are even more priceless...
He has had an average win % of 30% the last 3 years and his number of starts have increased steadily since 2013.
This person clearly doesn't understanding regression to the mean. The larger the sample the more the win % should negatively regress. Maybe the guy reinvented the wheel but it's clear he's doing something others do not.

A very good friend of mine Frank Passero was a trainer at Woodbine years ago and he owned the controlling percentage of every horse in his barn, he did this because he didn't want to be told where to run them. Back then he took advantage of the claiming rule change at Gulfstream. Gulfstream was having a hard time filling races so they changed the rule that you didn't have to move up in class off a win in a claiming race. Frank would win for 12 and race back in a 8 and win. Other trainers for reasons only they know hardly would ever claim off Passero. Andy Beyer lost a pick six and it was a Passero horse that cost him and after Beyer punched a hole in the press box wall he swore he would get Passero. The hole in the wall became known as Beyer's Hole and Beyer started a witch hunt towards Passero saying he was using something and then Walter Blum who was the head judge went after Frank. The end of the meet came and Passero was tied with Bill Mott as leading trainer and was presented with a plaque for 20 wins in a row it was also the start of years of horror for Frank which many close to Passero including myself believe it eventually cost him not only financially but his life a few years later. McKnight is trying to emulate Passero who he never knew but the McKnight situation is different. Passero was cleared of any wrong doing but McKnight will be found guilty, this I believe will eventually happen.
You Fucking Liar
Your story is a work of 99% FICTION and 1% Half-Truth. hvc.1
Passero died after a long cancer episode in 2010, about 15 years after YOU say he suffered so horrifically. ngc3
He didn't win 20 in row. It was 14. 68xv.2
He was hardly innocent. He rubbed CAYENNE PEPPER on the genitals of his horses. And got chased out of Gulfstream. tmbz1
Nice Try Tim. tmbz1

It would be kind of easy to see if something was up. If the meet has the data available, I could probably even do some tests to see what comes up.
Many of the defenses were such "well claim him and do better" about McKnight jamming horses in.
So, how do Mcknight horses do off the claim? How do they perform off the claim for trainers with high off the claim percentages? How do his runner's speed figures compare to the average historical runners in those classes? How about other horses making similar drops? There about a 1000 points of data you could look at and come up with a profile that is too anomalous to have the 'clean' trainer theory hold water. Then again, it could exonerate him.
-
Nigger you know fuck all. It was 20 in a row and yes he died later but after all the legal hassles Passero was never the same. I was at Gulfstream that winter and had dinner many nights with Frank. I still keep in touch with Bill Mott and he had the utmost respect for Passero. You should spread your BS somewhere else.
I don't believe you. angbk
Nobody does. tmbz1
You weren't there.
And it WAS 14 in a row, not 20 hvc.1
"He is probably best known for his remarkable accomplishment of winning a world-record 14 consecutive races at Gulfstream Park in Florida in 1996."
That's from his obituary.
Tim, You Fucking Dolt.
You weren't there
Trust me, I know more about this than you.

cant be 100% sure but I believe this is the same Norm McKnight that had a little "issue" with WEG on the Standardbred side back in the mid to late 1980,s
I believe it was something to do about a horse coming of an average qualifier and destroying a field and improving his time by 5 seconds
maybe someone can confirm the details
-
Nigger you know everything. At best you hang in the bunch of Aqueduct rail birds smoking your weed, some fucking imagination you have. And yes Brown Jug there was an issue with McKnight about the improvement. This is why it took McKnight so long to get his trainers license for the thoroughbreds. When he was shacked up with Rita Schnitzler she was winning like crazy and before McKnight she was a 2 percenter.
Why use that word? Makes you look foolish.
-
PPG your absolutely right, why should I lower myself to Calhoun's level. The streak was broken at 14 but Frank picked up the following week with 6 straight. Coa shot the horse from the gate and didn't rate him the way Frank told him to and Brother Jerry caught him at the 1/16 pole. Oddly this was Coa's first time to ride the horse.
Because Frank was feeling the pressure of what Beyer had started he was glad it was over but we all believe it to be 20 and it helped Passero tie Mott.
You are still
a. wrong,
b. lying,
c. talking out of your ass
d. all of the above.
The year he won 14 in a row he finished 2nd to Mott.
The year he tied for first was another year.
Tim, you are really not very good at this.
(I'm going with d. all of the above)

I'll save you some time and take a break from pummeling Iceman.
If you want to go through the other 996 points of data, be my guest.
-Over the past 5 years, 83 horses have been claimed off McKnight.
-Of those 83, 71 ran back.
-Of those 71 first off the McKnight claim runners, 3 won next out. And produced an roi of $0.34
-Of those 3 winners, none moved higher on Beyer Speed Figures
-Also of those 71, 4 Did Not Finish.
-Of those 71, 20 finished Dead Last
First off the claim winning percentages for "next out claimed off" for the rest of the top claiming trainers including Rodrigiuez, Broberg, Navarro, PAtterson, Servis, Ness all range 11% to 18%
===================
McKnight's winning %'s and roi are astronomically high.
McKnight 5-year Route-to-Sprint: 45% Wins. $4.10 RoI
===================
I'll leave it to Iceman Tim to contribute something useful to the discussion. ngc3 ngc3
Thx to Doug Sal
