I stopped there today with a friend on our way back home from a meeting...First time since they closed the racino down.. There is no longer a welcome or entrance sign that even indicates that you are even turning into the racetrack from 17b..Downright sad and disrespectful to anyone who actually cares about racing there.. Every time I think this place can't look any worse it somehow does..It's like watching someone you loved dying slowly on life support..I think it's time to pull the plug .This track was too beautiful to watch it deteriorate like this and obviously management could care less.

It was all down hill after the first slot machine arrived.

Were you the only one there ?

Very Funny!! Seriously though, maybe 20-25 people between anyone sitting outside and in the betting room...I was happy they still had working bathrooms..
The grass on the inside field is not even mowed, everything just looks just like the hotels and bungalow colonies up there before they all started closing down...This poor place is so neglected it's begging to be shut down..It's very hard for any of us who grew up there and raced when it was the place to be..I wish I knew the answer to help this poor track but it seems like no one cares and I do feel bad for the people who depend on this track to earn a living..It's really pathetic

I think it was simulcasting that killed the track...ended night racing and Sunday afternoon to race for a live crowd of a couple of dozen to fill down time on the national simulcast schedule.

There were many. My favorite was Billy Parker stiffing Ruth Stern's horses and Clubhouse would sit behind her in the grandstand and yell Zeeeeeeeke after she would get screwed. Her husband was identical looking to Jerry Orbach. He never said a word.

Max 35 people watching and gambling during the races. It’s done

Two weeks ago, drove up to Mainevto watch Scarborough... you think Monticello is bad???? Head to this place !! Used to access from Rt One on their main drag... CLOSED !! No mention of any of the triple crown races... condos being built everywhere... chalk this place up to being done !,,

I still remember warm summer Saturday nights there when they had a decent crowd, the multicolored lights in the infield fountain that they turned on between races.
sometimes they opened the glass on the front of the grandstand and a nice breeze came in.
sunday afternoons there were great.
only memories, all gone

Monticello was great in it's hay day. Training track was as good as the main track. Great stables there, track kitchen was good food and cheap. It was a show place. Good restaurants and places to go. White Lake, Swinging Bridge Lake summer fun. The Jewish alps.

When they got the slots, they painted the barns facing 17B. They made it look good but they didn't touch any in the back or any you couldn't see from the road. 11.wp
