The moral of the story below --- horse bought out the Meds to race in Ohio. Never thought I would say that.

Columbus, OH — Black Magic Racing is excited to announce the acquisition of the open pacer and stakes winner Dojea Gizmo after his stellar performance in The Meadowlands’ feature race last Saturday (March 27).
The 4-year-old has been undefeated since he changed hands more than four months ago and will now begin racing at Miami Valley Gaming with the best horses in the state.
As part of Greg Luther’s goal in acquiring Grand Circuit stock, this is the eighth Grand Circuit level horse he’s picked up since October of last year.
The Indiana-bred pacer is expected to make his first start for his new connections this Saturday at Miami Valley Gaming.

Horse was sold to brigade for 60 after Hoosierpark last November finished
I’m thinking they paid 120k or 100 for him
He’s a nice horse. But needs a big track imho
Frankiepark ran second to him in series last yr at Hoosierpark
Nice colt. Looked good sat night at bigm
Good luck
But idk about short track
Maybe they race him at Hoosierpark a little
-
good horses will flow to where the money is
as with anything cash goes to were it can make the best ROI
-
the robin schadt of ohio... what a joke... burke had him lit up good sat night ...
now we see why....must be nice to have that kind of money to just blow...
maybe instead of buying horses racing at the top of their game off the top
trainers they should look for some lesser priced horses from small time guys looking to
sell the once in a lifetime horse they develop...
-
I think they probably paid 150 or more. Gonna be interesting what happens on Sat. Gizmo drew the 7 and Burkes horses the 4 and 8. Will they give back some of the money and not get into a speed duel? 11.wp 11.wp ?
-
weaver ,, negotiates deals for brigade
he didnt give horse away
i like said
prob around 120k
-
Little known fact, Gizmo's Mom passed when he was 2 weeks old. Raised on borrowed milk.
-
Just looking at that race on Saturday again. The Open at Miami Valley. Out of the Eight horses in the Race Burke has trained SIX of them at one time or another. Weird I guess but goes to show you that whatever he does carries over
-
Why would you possibly say he needs a big track? The horse shows two wins at Yonkers and a win at Phl. I also think you significantly underestimate what he sold for.

This entire thread is about a bunch of busybodies who have no idea about this horse at all. Every buyer places a value at which to buy a horse, every seller does the same, and the entire group of you numskulls put together couldn't pay Greg Luthers taxes. The horse races fine on all size tracks!

It was less than that but both were over 200. Chief Mate is doing OK and getting checks in the Levy. Captain Kirk hasn't started yet. But that's my point .. Those horses were castoffs by Alagna and Dojea Gizmo is in the best form he's ever had and fresh with whatever magic Burke has. Weaver is no dummy as you said. I think he went for 150 or more whether or not its too much.

It’s really this simple. Burke has gone around and bought the best horses from small barns year in year out. If you buy all the best horses off the people you race against, they are easy to beat. This is just an extension of the same business model. Good horses hold form when changing barns.

Good luck to Greg he is spending huge cash let’s hope his trainer is as sharp as the trainers he is buying off of.
-
good luck to them
nothing wrong with paying for quality animals, especially at the age of 4, lots of racing still
chief mate has made $28k so far, not great but posts 8,5,8 at levy at yonkers doesn't help
even if as a 4 yr old he raced mostly in the opens in ohio he would make $150 gross
and if he can elevate beyond that eve when 5 he will make much more

The real steal was the 60K (if accurate) off Shetler. The horse was competing with the best Indiana had to offer despite Dan Shetler.
-
Why hate?
Appreciate someone else trying to do great in this business!!!
Burke kinda has a monopoly on this business. Horses everywhere.
Luther is on site with ALL of his horses.
Has a great team. Go luther!!!!!!
-
Like u guys say fact legit ...shit.....
Well he give 200 k for the horse!!! Fact legit... shit!!!
Get it luther!!!!!! Ill b repping the hat and shirt ludder lizards!!!!! People and haters will get in line for the hats and shirts!!!! But they will be a premium price!!!!
Just saying!!
Better buy them noooowwwwwwwwwwww w

RE Sales people are the Laziest individuals you will ever meet.
Scam Luther guy selling $1000 get rich quick deals to lazy people.
All they need is a kick in the ass .. $5 a kick.
-
Dojea Gizmo had a nice brush to 3/4 pole and found out why you need that little "something extra". Could have rated him a little better. Probably paced 26.3 third quarter and walked home falling from 2nd to last. Chalk it up to travel and getting used to new barn. Time will tell how good of a buy it was.
I believe 3rd start. Still no checks. Not a terrible mile but maybe they need to get back to the Meds where the racing is easier tmbz1
-
horse is fine
needs a mile track ,,
loves those the long stretchs
-
nice to have a shitload of money... no clue what horses to buy
trainer that is average at best... im being kind..(robin schadt of ohio)
first step.. get real trainer and someone who knows
which horses to buy and which trainers to buy from
sure its his money he can do what he wants.. but who
wants to see someone who enjoys harness racing this much
lose all that cash... wake up...

I completely disagree. This is a family operation and truthfully this is not a big investment for these folks. You will see some folks begin to invest in horses again to achieve a Section 179 tax write-off---especially during the yearling sales. Recall, they can expense 100% of their purchase dollar for dollar against their ordinary income.
These additional tax proposals will enhance the value of tax deductions for capital assets. this is not about profit as the profit can be calculated when the purchase is made even if the horse has zero income in his racing career.
this truly is a no risk transaction for these folks and truthfully their investments are very small in comparison to the revenue that can be sheltered from their other companies.
Rest assured this is a family business and profit is not their motive----fun is!
With the markets at all time highs and the capital gains tax about to be eliminated or altered---with additional tax on all income over $400,000----the equine investment makes sense even if you never earn a dime. For those motivated horse folks---you can seriously promote your product and the tax savings as a source of revenue for the new owner/investor.
Think back to Saratoga Standardbreds, Almahurst Stud LP 1,2,3,4,5 as well as LPG Standardbred---these were tax savings transactions and not profit motivated and each were in the tens of millions of dollars!!!!
Did any of the investors ever receive and cash flow or profit? Nope!! Lots of K-1 losses!!! The demise of these programs was not their losses but the change of the tax laws. In this case , it is early and many things can change but it is possible that the new tax laws will may benefit equine owners. It is too early to saw ---yet but very possible.
I am very sure these folks have qualified tax advisors.
