Post by: Calhoun on March 29, 2022, 12:43:39 PM

They're having $800k+ handles most nights.

Has anything been announced?

POMPANO WAS ONCE THE SHOWPLACE OF HARNESS RACING WITH THE WHO'S WHO OF RACING!!!   THEY ALWAYS HAD TOP RACES AND HOSTED MANY TOP RACES LIKE BREEDERS CROWN AND MATRON STAKES.

THIS COULD OF BEEN SAVED IF THE INDUSTRY WORKED TOGETHER.  UNFORTUNATELY, MANY TRACKS WILL FOLLOW THIS DEMISE BECAUSE OF LACK OF LEADERSHIP AND FUNDING TO HORSE A CZAR OF RACING AND PROMOTE THE SPORT VIA LOBBYING.  YES, LOBBYING---MONEY TALKS!!!

LOVED THIS PLACE AND WILL MISS IT AND MY MEMORIES BACK IN THE 60'S.

Save what....just like landlines are done...pay phones..people don't need racing. Casino and so many apps on phones...racing was it in 70s n 80s..time for new things. Florida got rid of the must have live Para mutual event to have casino. Jai,alai, done n racing.

Been going to Pompano for 45 year, going to be missed. Back in its day was one of the best. Guess I'll be going to Gulfstream more.

So that's it for racing inFL?
Sunshine Meadows, Spring Garden?
Is there a Gural-type or a group that would apply for a license somewhere?

On the East coast, in order:
Monticello
Freehold
Harrah's Philadelphia
Pocono Downs
Yonkers
The order of the bottom three is tentative, pending which states pass decoupling legislation first.

at 800k with almost all the revenue coming off track -- a generous 5% nets the track $40k  for purses and expenses. They lose money every night they race.

so true.  sadly years ago a much too low rate was set on sending a signal out.  in todays world adws have very little expenes yet keep 15-20 percent of handle and tracks like pomp get next to nothing. how many more tracks would still be open if the split were reversed? instead of 40k the revenue would be more like 120k. at least enough to survive.

Those harness tracks are taking 15-20% of the real big money bet on tbreds via their on site/awd. In most cases, reverse this splits and they would be worse off.
