It would be scary to think how many wins Joe would have had if he was still going
It would be scary to think how many different positives in how many different states Joe would have had if he was still going.
It would be scary to think how many more times his wife, Ryan, or more 2nd trainers would have to beard for him.
So why isn't he still going?
IMHO
The Kentucky vet retired. (I can't remember his name)
The owner went to jail.
Testing got better and testing for more things.
If you have a lot of time on your hands, go to Pathway and read his pages of positives.

Little Joe
A friend of mine now deseased was a part time trainer.
He was racing his only horse at Maywood.
Busse took off so my freind put Little Joe up.
The horse won.
My friend is all excited and runs down to the winners circle.
Joe throws the lines at him and says "Don't ever put me up again".
Nice guy right?

I easily narrowed my choice down to four for best IL. trainer.
In no particular order the four IL. trainers that each won the national driving championship.
Each  winning many races with the horses they trained.
Bob Farrington I believe bought most of his horses as ready made horses.
The other three owned their own farm, stallions, mares, and training track.
My reasoning is simple. If you can win national fame, mostly driving horses you train, then you must be one hell of a good trainer.
I think there has only been four with IL. connections. Correct me if I am wrong.
I give Walter Paisley honorable mention. I think he finished second nationally one year. At the time he trained a stable.
Farrington and what other three top my list?
I am not counting Morgan or Tetrick.

Brian Pelling and Dennis Nardoni were suspended for five years ''through 1992'' Thursday by stewards at Maywood Park for allegedly manipulating the 10th-race trifecta at the harness track on Nov. 6.

Pelling was the driver, trainer and owns horses trained and driven by Pelling but didn`t have a contestant in the $5,000 conditioned pace for non-winners of $2,500 in their last six starts.

Thorn Eagle (10-to-1), Ultra Osborne (2-to-1 second choice) and Midnight Eagle (35-to-1), a 7-6-1 combination, paid $1,492.20 for a $3 bet on the trifecta. Midnight Eagle moved from fourth to third on the disqualification of Leah Christina, a 31-to-1 longshot demoted to sixth for interfering with several horses in the stretch.

Fox Valley Bullet, the 9-to-5 favorite, finished eighth, a length behind Pelling`s horse, who stayed in front of him for about three quarters of a mile.

State stewards Tim Schmitz and Bob Milburn and association steward Bill Baier found Pelling guilty of violating seven Illinois racing rules-1, an unsatisfactory drive; 2, betting on starters; 3, fraudulent proposals; 4, acts injurious to racing; 5, conspiracy to violate rules; 6, association with undesirables; 7, solicitation of wagers.

Nardoni was suspended for four offenses-1, fraudulent proposals; 2, acts injurious to racing; 3, conspiracy to violate rules; 4, failure to observe the new rules regarding approaching the security barn without authorization.

Witnesses told investigators Pelling and Nardoni held a conversation in the unauthorized area before the race

''I`d like to be more specific, but I just can`t right now,'' said Schmitz when asked to detail the circumstances of the race and the subsequent investigation that led to the suspensions. ''We can`t turn our cards over right now.''

Unsatisfactory driving means not attempting to win a race. The betting on starters rule pertains to wagering on contestants other than one`s own horse to win a race. Fraudulent proposals, acts injurious to racing and conspiracy to violate rules are offenses dealing with conspiring to fix a race and offering bribes to others involved.
here's your hero/great trainer

By far Homer Hochstetler and Doug Ackerman

Looks like Frank's hero is keeping it classy!   tmbz1

HOCHSTETLER, HOMER J PINEHURST, NC YOB 1952
HoP on 6/21/2023 FINED: $500
OFFENSIVE/PROFANE LANGUAGE
71 IAC 5-1-22(a),(b) 71 IAC 7-5-1(4) Licensee Homer Hochstetler attempted to enter the
barn area of Hoosier Park on 6/21/2023. When stopped at the stable gate and asked to
show his Indiana Horse Racing Commission license he became argumentative with
Hoosier Park security. When the security supervisor intervened, Mr. Hochstetler became
agitated and yelled "f*ck you" before leaving the area to retrieve his badge. Upon returning
to the stable gate with his badge, Mr. Hochstetler asked for the "cigar bastard." For this
violation Mr. Hochstetler is fined $500.00 which is due within seven days of this ruling. Mr.
Hochstetler waived is right to a hearing and agreed to the penalty.

Lets look at it from the security guards side.
They maybe under rules, If you let anyone in with out them showing a license. YOU ARE FIRED!

Hoosier hires $15 morons off the street for security. Their job is to not let anyone enter the backstretch who doesn’t belong or have a license. If they see you and talk to you and know who you are there’s no reason to want to see your license. It’s ridiculous. It’s over the top just to aggravate the horseman so they do something like homer did so they can file a report and when the time comes to decouple from the casino they can pull out all these reports and say, see what we have to deal with? These horseman are nothing but a big expense and a bother get rid of the horseman. Close the barn area let us just operate a casino. Just like they did at pompano.
