Not sure i expected my day to start with this thread but good morning. Lol
Not a huge fan of punk but a few bands i did listen too. The energy of punk is its biggest asset. Some of it unfortunately the talent wasnt up snuff (ala sex pistols). Really a little bit precursors to the genres golden age of punk.
I did like patti smith, mc5 and lou reed - imho horses and kick out the jams live lp high quality. And reeds live rocknroll animal lp is classic stuff. In the heyday, i did like the clash too.

Clash was great, even Men at Work not bad. Billy Bragg also a notable.

Thats right. Thanks for the correction. From Tyler TX. right?

Meet at Work and Billy Bragg were definitely NOT punk.
Now The Ramones were a good American punk band.
-
Hey hey lets go...Ramones definitely punk and had an impact on evolution of music scene. Wasnt a huge fan but some talent there. Rawness of sound biggest asset imho.
-
Always a big fan of The Pouges.

Is that the band whose frontman had the horrific dental issues?
-
Yep....Shane MacGowan. Kind of a loose cannon but a great front man. I don't know how some of these people are still alive.

Hilarious band from that time flock of seagulls - what up with that hair. Funny thing being cool sometime. The hair thing wasnt quite as cool as might have been projected initially.

I'll take Harold Melvin and the Blue notes with Teddy Pendergrass on vocals every time.

Good sound, and good vibe. Music today is all about a look, and less about the sound.

The greatest music in history is soul and funk music from the late 50's to the mid 70's.

Damn straight!

All though edgy for the day, George Clinton/ Parliament Funk, and his various other personas were all interesting listens.

I'm not so sure that all of us Beatlemaniacs can agree w/ cavilierly anointing soul over rock-n-roll
