Any guesses? As long as it’s not The self proclaimed King or Stabile I’m good with it.

If you can pull Tom Durkin away from those fancy bars in Saratoga Springs he would be great.
-
Alcohol has been an issue for him sadly.

whoever is the worst. Looks like they want the racing to go away. Doing a good job so far.
-
Last night he couldn't tell white from yellow. Called a 3 horse on the lead until past the quarter. The 3 was fourth. Called the 6 horse 4th. He was on the lead. Same race obviously. Kept calling out Daniel Dube loudly and with a weird accentuation on his name.

I think James Woolite Rug is the best.

i doubt Mr. Witherite would drive 3 hours one way to take a job at a dump.
The industry has shunned James for no reason whatsoever, mindboggling.

Is anyone actively campaigning for the job could be a better question??

I wish Marty Glickman was still around so he could apply. Don’t know Marty? Look him up.
-
Namath back to pass, he's looking.........
-
i was always curious, what do you think track announcers get paid at the major tracks like Yonkers, Meadowlands etc. ?
-
I once heard that Jack Lee in the 80s was making around 100k between RR and an occasioanal wrestling show at the garden.

Very funny Fug but I recall Marty Glickman more for being the NY Giants and Knicks radio announcer and forgetting he also did the Jets. Glickman was an announcing guru. He mentored many generations of great announcers including greats Marv Albert annd Spencer Ross. Incredibly Yonkers had this HOF announcer for 12 years. Do you think YR has any chance of getting someone even close to Glickman’s abilities to fill their announcing opening?

What happened to Hernan at Yonkers?

Willie no one really knows on Plop so far but it can’t be good.

I am just a bit young to have heard him doing football or racing live. I've read articles and seen shows about him. It featured some Jets Namath moments, so that's how I automatically associated him. he had such command and drama in his voice without sounding like it was manufactured. How could they ever find anyone approaching him? from what I've read and heard, he was such a master of his craft. Was he there in 1974? ( YR ) Nov 74, first time I set foot in YR All my memories are Bob Meyer. In 1977 when i was 14 I read Sports eye like it was The Bible. My family knew Mark Richman and he would take my phone calls on occasion if I called him at the newspaper. Anyway, he got me OK'd to go in the press box. i met Geoff Stein, pandy, later on Mike Remy. Was allowed into the booth when Bob Meyer called a race. then watched as he recorded it back for the Result Line. to me it was an amazing experience!
He autographed the race he called. The winner was Mr AAA. remember him?
-
I don’t recall what years Glickman called the races but it was definitely in the 60s and maybe right before Bob Myers. I believe Bullet Bob began at YR in 1972-3. He called races at YR for 27 years. In 2000 he began calling races at Saratoga Raceway. Both announcers were great.

Carmine Abz drove Mr AAA

What happened to Hernan at Yonkers?
Wife divorced him and took the dogs with her. He decided to leave to get a new start which is how he wound up at Ocean Downs over the summer.

I used to love hearing Jack Lee say "Oscar..Oscar...Os car"!! as a kid. I always figured a lot of people like me at first assumed he was named after Felix's lamenting Oscar's name on the Odd Couple. Then I was watching the racing show and he won after a 2 year drought. Gerry Sarama went wire to wire from the outside i recall at boxcars. After the race Stan Bergstein remarked that the horse was actually named for Oscar Kimelman. More great memories.

Who was the announcer at Yonkers who couldn't say "fourth", mid 1990s maybe. He would pronounce it footh.
-
Bullet Bob Myers was their announcer throughout the 1990s
-
Thank you, loved his calls.
