In your opinion, who was the best Standardbred, taking all factors into consideration, and regardless of gait, in the last 25yrs? Just an opinion poll, nobody wins nor loses.
-
Are you already Fuguzzi's new spokesman?

Thats me!, however, it's a simple question and should therefore be right in your wheelhouse.

I think The Beach & Bulldog are great choices but my choice would be Foiled Again.

Definitely the best pacer in the last 25 years.
-
foiled again hands down the other two hid out in the breeding shed after 3
-
Bulldog Hanover by a mile. The way he dominated and the times he did it in week after week stands in my mind as the real deal period.
-
Beach and Bulldog, great choices, Foiled bettor on small tracks. My choice was Sweet Lou. 2 time world record holder, fastest 2 year at time 149. ever, fastest pacer on a 5/8 147 and recorded 6 wins in a row in 47.4 or faster. 2 time dan patch winner.
-
My vote is for Foiled. 109 victories in 331 starts. Aged pacer of the year 3x. Career earning of 7.6 mil with avg. annual earnings of $587,000. Oldest horse to earn a Breeders Crown (I think that still stands) Doesn't have those speed miles but I think he's overall the best. One tough SOB.

You can make a case for a lot of those mentioned. Somebeach, Sebastian K, Foiled, Sweet Lou. How about Always B Miki? Broke bones in his hind legs two times (one time when favored in the three year old Crown) and the other leg not as bad with Takter later. Still set the fastest mile ever at the time after.

Lots of good ones over the past 25 years but Beach is the best.

Muscle Hill
Second the motion.
2yo: Peter Haughton, Breeders Crown, Dan Patch 2yo Colt trotter (8 for 9)
3yo: Hambo, Canadian Trotting Classic, American National, World Trotting Derby, Kentucky Futurity, Breeders' Crown (12 for 12) Hambo in 1:50.1 in 2009!!! $2,456,000 as a 3 yo and Dan Patch Horse of the Year
Career totals: 20 for 21, $3,273,000 (after his first race, where he finished 2nd, he won his last 20 in a row...for a TROTTER!!)
Also, like SBSW on the pacing side, he has proven to be a top sire.
-
Muscle Hill
Was coming here to say this. If you categorize "best" as inclusive of breeding stats, it's him and SBSW, in my opinion.
-
Foiled Again had longevity but he lost ALOT of races. He was only the top ffa for basically one season. His Meadowlands record is pretty poor in totality
Trotter: Muscle Hill
Pacer: Somebeachsomewher e
Mare Pacer: Test of Faith
Mare Trotter: Manchego
-
I'm going to say Michael Scores, although I thoroughly enjoyed watching Bulldog race
-
Muscle Hill. Changed the whole foundation of trotters going forward.

1 year?? Are you fucking kidding me?
Read this you fucking retard. He was aged pacer of the year 3 years in a row!!!!!

Best? I don't know how people quantify "best" with some horses racing and doing what they did at 2, 3, 4, or older. Add gait to the discussion. For me, the greatest horse I have seen in the last 25 years is Somebeachsomewher e. He had more natural talent and ability than any horse I've seen in the last 25 years. On the trotting side, Muscle Hill, and I feel compelled to give a vote to Varenne, both for the same reasons.

Test of Faith's ovaries would have fallen out if she had to face Shartin N and Manchego's career was not as good as Atlanta's.

If Confederate races the TVG and crushed the older horses, he puts himself into consideration. That hasn’t been done since what? The early 80s? Bret Hanover in the 60s?. His resume is on par with pretty much anything since the beach for 2-3 year old years, and if he goes gout and jerks bythemissals bridle… you gotta at least put him in the conversation.
I also think if bythemissal can stay healthy he’s gonna make a TON of money. 4-5 million before it’s all said and done.
-
Lol please Shartin clearly was drugged beyond belief. No one had the explosive turn of Faith
-

Manchego's 5 yo career was insane. Atlanta didnt have that. Atlanta had a better 3 yo campaign but aged it goes to Mamchego as well as her 2yo campaign

Only deserved it once...lotta wins on shitty half miles against b level ffas. Simply not impressed by his relative lack of success at the Mecca
-
Varenne was the greatest trotter ever. I do not see anything even close. This trotter had major success in 7 countries, 62 wins at 11 different distances, the equivalent of over $8.75 million in earnings and won Horse of the Year in both the USA and France. He is also one of the only foreign horses in our Goshen HOF. If you aren’t familiar do yourself a favor and look him up.
-
We managed to slide off topic. The question was, regardless of gait and taking all factors into consideration, and in your opinion, who was the best standardbred in the last 25 years. It is not multiple choice. One Plopper, one choice. I personally would have chosen SBSW or Bettors Delight for second best. I know it's hard to choose but it should be interesting to see the results.
-
Tough question as what do we mean by "Best"-because horses unfortunately can retire early to go to breeding shed--and thus its hard to judge how they would go for the rest of their lives.
So up till age 3--its Trotter--MUSCLE HILL
Pacer--Somebeachsomewhere.
NO doubt in my mind-and Im lucky to have been around the last 25 years to see them all.
Best as far as longevity and Prizemoney--then its Foiled Again for Pacer Varenne--for Trotter
-
Not so tough as both pacers and trotters are considered Standardbreds. The question who is considered the best standardbred regardless of gait. Your choices are both great but you have to pick one.

100% agree.

Sorry I'm going to broken record this but I have to speak up again for Always B. Miki. Broke both hind legs still came back and set the fastest mile ever that held up for six years or so. Already sired 5 Breeders Crown winners and possibly the best mare ever in Sylvia Hanover.
What could have he done if he didn't break those legs and kept racing?

Great stuff about Miki!

The ONLY correct answer is Somebeachsomewher e, and it isn't particularly close

I would love to agree with you on that but I can't. I would agree that he was the greatest overnighter in the business.

theres no answer beside muscle hill

How is Muscle Hill not close?
he has essentially the same record except his only loss was his first lifetime start in which they raced from the back he could have easily won if put in play.
It’s Muscle Hill
-
per Foiled Again..if he had to race against Miki and Wiggle It he would be sent back to Monticello....he would be soundly beaten by them so how could he be the best of all time.

Muscle Hill with or without Pecticles.

FYI Shit for brains..The subject is last 25 years, not all time. As far as Miki and WIJI are concerned, you have no idea what would have happened if FA faced them. Also, I will take the 7.6 million FA made. COMBINED, your choices didn't make 7. LOSER!
