Title: Cumberland KY condition
Post by: dinkadoo on November 01, 2023, 08:26:02 AM
NW of $1500 L4  for KY trainers

Purse $17,000

Handle $ 3.837

Bad part of this.... if you win, you have to move up about 6 classes.

NOT TRUE. Read the condition sheet. You move up ONE CLASS. It clearly states in the next class up AE: starters in this class or lower.

Great program. If all the tracks were run like Kentucky the industry would be in much better shape.

When many racetracks first opened as new tracks with slots, the same scenario was in play. I am speaking of Thoroughbred tracks. They still had the same horsemen and horse population with a barn full of $5k claimers. So they wrote races and conditions from the available horse population. $5K claimers up to say $20K.
Guys were taking $20 claimers and dropping in for a $5K tag. With  the purse being $30K the risk was minimal.
Allowance races offered a lucrative safe haven as their purse went from $9K to $40K. Finishing 2nd and keeping your conditions was the game.
Presque Isle Downs was a perfect example of this. Of course things have changed but, it was wild for a while.

Yeah next week is their final week.
4 weeks of racing, 3 days a week.

you got a decent horse that you can sneak into a bottom class - you can rack up some big cash in a few starts.
