No surprise at all Northfield was short, but I just had a friend tell me it was 68 feet short
that seems like overkill
where's our Ohio horseman in the know?
...it will be years before any current track records are broke.

Who's your friend?

Alot of people have been defrauded by the ridiculous times that were recorded as Official! NFLD should be sued for defrauding the public as well as the horsemen.

68 feet is approximately 8 1/2 lengths

68 feet is approximately 8 1/2 lengths
that actually sounds about right
front end speed isn't holding up like it used to

Aaron Merriman is screwed now....lol

Where is the proof about the trach being short.

Where is the proof about the trach being short.
Been talked about here before. As I recall the track was surveyed prior to some resurfacing work thus the 68 feet number. Afterwards one of the drivers in a video said to him the pylons looked to be further out after the resurfacing. Also the race times seemed to have slowed a lot now that they are supposedly racing a mile.

Lengths are measured in fifths of seconds, not length of horse, which varies.
-
where's the proof???
how about looking at the times since the "reconfigured" the track
its not like they are off a little, most races and horses are off by 3 seconds

In a winners circle interview post resurfacing winning driver P. Roy stated that last turn was not as sharp and had less banking than the last time he was there. A.Mac also said that the grass is not as close as it used to be.

It was posted by either Northfield or OHHA- idr which, maybe both,as that was several months ago.

They did widen the turn on the backstretch.
Speed certainly isn't holding up that well there, anymore.

There is 8 feet in one length

So 8 1/2 lengths is approx 1.5 seconds

So 8 1/2 lengths is approx 1.5 seconds
Probably a good guess

FYI, many people believe that many tracks race less than 1 mile. Rumor has it pocono and the meadowlands are too.

According to USTA specs.
You can google it.
A race track is measured three feet out from the pylons.
IMHO
That means that todays horses with the offset bikes travel a shorter mile then their predecessors.

11 feet is a length if the driver is laying back ngc3

Officially
Thanks google
A length is based on the size of the lead horse as measured from nose to tail.
Not counting the tail, sulky, or driver.

Not sure what happened, whether it be length or surface, but NFLD times are significantly slower since they closed a week for track maintenance a while back.
