Title: Eddie Lohmeyer
Post by: MIKE CAMPBELL on July 08, 2024, 12:11:37 AM
Eddie Lohmeyer is a hall of famer like I am an astronaut and a brain surgeon on the weekends. Same goes for David McDuffee. Both are well connected among the stick up their ass voters and that is the only reason they got in. Year by year, Goshen HOF turns more and more into a piece of shit. However, kudos to Jim Campbell. He is deserving of HOF status.

Lohmeyer in the HOF is a total headscratcher. Bought my first horse in 1986 from that barn and doubled his value in a month.

It is strictly politics. He knows the right people and is married to a famous veterinarian that also knows the right people. I could name 500 people more deserving than him but that is how the privileged play that game.

Right, forgot that he was married to Patti Hogan. She should be in the HOF before him.

Lucky you and be very thankful!  More horses that not decrease in value after a purchase.

Best Eddie L memory, I was standing at the 1/4 when Mahron knocked down Landslide and Eddie L got up in punched him in the face.

Ask some of his family members if he has class, Einstein. I love the way someone who wouldn't be able to pick Eddie out of a lineup and has never met the man can make personal comments. Comment all you want about his exploits in Harness Racing but you have no idea who the man is.

Sorry Mike but yes I would know Eddie and have crossed paths with him a number of times.
Had a common interest in a couple of his more famous horses.I like him and he always treated
me well. With class.

Do you think Kenny and Jeffrey feel the same way?

I assume they are family members. I don't know them. I can
only speak to the interactions I had with him.

Right, forgot that he was married to Patti Hogan. She should be in the HOF before him.
He mentioned her twice in his speech which was more than he said about the horses he trained. He set her up nicely in her clinic on their farm. Eddie is 80 now.

I had a chance to discuss the hall of fame selections with a well-respected horseman yesterday (Monday afternoon), and they were all good choices--Lohmeyer, McDuffee, and Jim Campbell.  All three of these individuals worked very hard and spent millions of dollars into the business.  McDuffee should have gotten in sooner over a few others previously selected to the hall of fame.

Jim Campbell for sure. All McDuffee did was write checks and Lohmeyer had an average to above average career but like I posted earlier, there are hundreds with better careers than his that are not in. No one is going to convince me that Lohmeyer is more deserving than Benny Webster or Tony Morgan. For them to not be in before Lohmeyer is criminal.

Nothing against Lohmeyer but him being elected to the HOF before Brett Pelling is absurd.

A lot of mixed opinions here. Obviously Eddie has been around NJ racing a long time, so many people know him personally. I do wonder how many people here actually do know him personally. First of all, let's remember, Lohmeyer makes the HOF as per the Veterans Provision. This allows the Screening Committee to make a direct election to someone over the age of 70 who has made a truly notable contributions to harness racing. Numbers of qualified people IN THE SPORT, who certainly have more qualified opinions of many people here, feel this guy has made such contributions to the sport. Period.

I will say this, the guy kept two well-liked, well-respected owners, two men of integrity------Bob Tucker and John Stoddard (both I knew personally) for over 30 and 40 years. Bob Tucker once said that after Eddie, he never had a horse trained by anyone else. You don't get that kind of loyalty by accident. He also trained for William Simon, another classy, stand-up guy (some of you who are old enough should recognize his name......it used to be on our money!). Simon was Secretary of the Treasury. Eddie followed Joe DeFrank around, so ending up at the Meadowlands was not a surprise. I do give the guy credit for paying $290,000 for a Meadow Skipper colt way back in what, 1979, back when very, very few people were paying those kinds of numbers for yearlings......an d then he tells the owners he doesn't want to race him at 2!!! It's OK, Landslide was a very good 3yo and they syndicated him for about $3.6mm. LOL.

Eddie had 50 year career training horses. Eddie has also had success as a breeder as well, having bred/raised and/or trained horses like Landslide, Pacific Rocket, Pacific Fella, Eddie Jeff, Skipper Dexter, Mickie Rodney, Adair Castle, and numerous others. He knew his horses and was not the easiest to buy from. The same goes for Jack Darling, LOL, Dan Altmeyer, and several other good sellers. Being that Cat Manzi is his cousin, they were tied together at various times. At least Eddie knew he always had access to a top catch driver, LOL. Anyway, I would say there are far more people------in the business and sport-------who like him and respect him, than don't. I think the latter might even be rare. Second hand stories, sour grapes, jealousy, whatever the reason someone has a hard-on for someone else, to me that is very transparent, especially if the person isn't even in the sport of business. Doesn't matter the reason.

Now as far as him getting in before Brett Pelling and Steve Elliott, or Benny Webster for that matter, don't be a moron. That has nothing to do with Eddie. His name comes up on the ballot and the others don't. It's absolutely a crime that Brett, Steve, and Benny are not in the HOF......I think it's a shame and it's BS.....but it is not a crime at all that Ed Lohmeyer is in the HOF.

i think of Pacific Rocket when i see Eddie's name

was in the 94 Big M Pace but was driven poorly--the race was won by Cams Card Shark

Rocket should've won the Jug too after Cam's Card Shark scratched out of it. Campbell wouldn't let him go at fastest qtr at the time
with stablemate Expensive Scooter. Rocket screaming for room in the last turn, ran up Campbell's ass and jumped it off. Would
have sucked Magical Mike[eventual winner]right up his ass. Went on to set back to back track records in Windy City Pace and Provincial Cup.
