For what? She had no involvement with the mob she was not involved with Mike's brother-in-law.

First of all, she was married to Mike. Secondly, she lived at the Lakewood farm which was owned by Tommy. When Mike went in to witsec after Tommy became an informant, so did Mike's mother, sister Barbara and Simone. PS..I don't think I ever saw a prettier woman than Simone.

Mike left witsec. He said he couldn't live like that. Died a few years later. I think it was pancreatic cancer.

I think he went for treatment in Mexico that didn't work out and he passed away.

After Mike came back, he did go for treatment outside the US. I think he also got into a trial at Sloan at one point. Back in the day Mike had some real power, good owners, some good horses, etc. A lot of people don't remember, Mike drove Goalie Jeff in the Breeders Crown as a 2yo.

What some people don’t realize is that Mike was an excellent horseman we all came out of Johnson Park. Richie Johnson became his trainer at times he could be an arrogant asshole.

Johnson park out East ? Is that an animal zoo or a park ? Looked it up says it actually had a harness track back in the 70-80s. Looks like they actually had fair races or sire stakes. That must have been cool .

Absolutely! Back in the day Mike also had Auggie Schumatti working for him. Auggie took over as trainer before he went on his own and got a private gig with one of Mike's owners. Mike was an excellent horseman.

Yes, Herve drove there, and that's where Jack Moiseyev got his early start too. They used to run NJ "Fair"/Sire Stakes there. Fun little fair track.

Unfortunately no, Auggie died about 10 or 12 years ago. He had a great sense of humor. Funny guy. He lost his job as a private trainer, and relocated to DE where he got a couple of horses. I am not sure but I think he might have still been dating Susan Looney (Elmer's granddaughter) at the time. He developed ALS, retired and moved to FL. He passed away while living in FL.

Correct. Many of the horses racing out of Willowbrook Farms had names with "Hobo" like Hobo Jet and Hobo Wayne.

I remember Weequahic park in Newark. I was never there I heard about it.

I remember when Secaucus New Jersey was mostly pig farms before the Meadowlands even was thought about. I remember my dad telling me that the mafia would tell a pig farmer not to feed the pigs-hogs for a day and then they would throw dead bodies in the hog pen and they would eat the bones and all. Sorry I got sidetracked lol

That whole area was dumping grounds for chemical waste. When they built the Harmon Cove Condos in Secaucus, they found thousands of lead container drums. The NY mob would dump bodies there because you just had to travel through the Lincoln Tunnel and you were there. The Jersey mob would dump their bodies in Budd Lake and Lake Hopatcong.

Gas pipe lived in Mount Olive/Bud Lake. You’re right on the money that whole area was contaminated.

The half mile track is still at Weequahic Park. They put rubber pellets on it and made a jog track for people.

I was thinking the same thing when you walk through Willowbrook Mall who would ever think it was a training center.
