Do you have anything else constructive to say here?

Hey Luc, did you purchase any at the sale?

I'm curious how you know these are quality yearlings?
-
Tony Alagna spent a fortunate tonight. He better have a very good year next year...better than this one, LOL.
Why.....do you think his owners rely on this business as their livelihood?
-
Harris's spending makes no sense. I don't know how wealthy Pollack is but no one likes to lose money, and so far he's losing big time.
-
Hey Luc, did you purchase any at the sale?
No I didn’t so far
I’m looking at one

He's extremely wealthy. If he lost $10 or $20 million it wouldn't make a dent. The guy is 71....either he is going to spend some of is money or someone is going to spend it for him.
On another note, his company's stock lost almost a percent this morning so maybe wall street don't like his purchases. ngc3

From the HRU article-----Cameo Hills Second Leading Consigor by average-----almost $290,000 average for seven yearlings sold! Great sale for one of the good guys!
CAMEO HILLS: BEST SALE EVER
Cameo Hills sold Going Viral, as well as two $400,000 yearlings — Hip #52 The Wow Chapter, a Chapter Seven colt out of Violet Stride purchased by Lucas Wallin Hip #58 Kickan, a Walner filly out of You Ato Dream purchased by David McDuffee.
“It’s the best sale I’ve ever had,” said Cameo Hills’ Steve Jones, who was the second-leading consignor by average with $288,571 for seven sold. “I told Dave Reid, the sales manager, ‘I think we’ll have the best sale we’ve ever had on opening night’ and we have.
“This is tremendous. We’ve got nice horses left to sell. I don’t think anything, obviously, will approach the numbers we got tonight, but the sale is great. I had nice individuals by the right sires. People were asking me if I was concerned that they weren’t dual-eligible and I said I am absolutely not concerned at all. I said, ‘That’s a great marketing tool for the people in Kentucky and it’s great additional money for the people racing horses, but ultimately what these people are looking for is the best horse and I think I’m bringing some great individuals and some great pedigrees and they’ll sell well’ and they did.”

Andrew Harris---- ‘You pick the pacers.’ We talked to Bill [Pollock] and Bruce [Areman] and they were more than inclined to jump on that because my pacing colts sucked last year. I was not happy with any of my pacing colts. I love my pacing fillies, but I didn’t like any of my pacing colts – they just didn’t turn out as 2-year-olds. I’m hoping as 3-year-olds they turn out, but I was disappointed in the horse selection, so hopefully this year they step up and we’ll have a little more luck as 3-year-olds with them. We’re going to let Casie pick these ones this year and see how it works.”-------admission he threw out Pollock's money!

This level of stock is purchased by the likes of ken Jacobs and others in similar positions. As he said, " it was either spend a million on a horse or, give it to the government". Not many that were as savey to earn a million would think a million on one horse was a "good investment". He also said, he just sold one for a million a couple weeks ago and "so roll it over".
-
Counting other people's money, getting inside their head, and trying to figure out why they do what they do, which is self-expression.....all of it is an exercise in futility.
Ken Jacobs has been passionate about this game for a long time. Since his early days he always liked good, quality horses, racing for big purses, etc. He certainly puts his money where his heart is. I hope he does great! The sport and the business need him, more like him, and others to come along. I still think you are surrounded by the Philistines when you go these auctions, and this is certainly not an "efficient" market, but that's another story, LOL.

What if he is smart enough to go to the Breeders and say im going to buy this horse and I want a 10% buyers premium returned to me for making your horse valuable. The big thorobred trainers do this. It would be way more than his 5% next year

Yes he did. He also explained his strategy in promoting the stallion, Walner, he still owns a large % of, in saying he set the stud fee high and needs to justify the value.

Amac bought, I think a trotter, on Monday and paid $80K. He then said he had the horse valued at $175-$180 so we now have 2 types of people:
1. The people that invest who think Amac is really sharp and
2. The people who know better that the horse was only worth $80K as not 1 of basically the best, knowledgeable people did not think the horse was worth bidding $81K.
My take is this is another proof where Amac knows his 1% crowd are sheep and swallow anything he says while he continues to try to play and drive with the big boys with other peoples money

Harris and Pollock also bought the day’s third-highest seller, trotting filly Che Bella, for $400,000. The daughter of Bar Hopping-New Wave is a three-quarter sister to 2023 Dan Patch Award winning filly Bond, with Dan Patch Award recipients Bella Bellini and Pizza Dolce also in her family. She was consigned by Kentuckiana Farms and bred by Al Libfeld. She is Pennsylvania and Kentucky eligible.
“My son (Billy) wanted that one the most,” Pollock said. “We saw the video and liked the way she looked, a big bruiser. He really loved that horse.”
Pollock purchased 15 horses through the first two sessions of the sale for a total of $5.1 million.
“We wanted 15 horses, that was our goal,” he said. “We bought 11 fillies. I think we’re going to branch into the breeding a little bit down the road in the future. We want to have some broodmares. I want to have an ongoing business to pass down someday to my son. The prototypes are the Diamond Creeks, the Brittany Farms, Crawford Farms. I just love those types of things. That’s our goal, to maybe do a smaller version of that, but have something ongoing. This way, you at least have a future going forward.”

The people running the sale are still cheering on. Some Consignors are saying “I think we are having a good sale” Brittany on the other hand says “our horses are selling for about half what we thought the would bring”.
Lets face it, other than a couple sires, the prices crashed and burned yesterday.
When I see fussy trainers with deep pockets,(Takter and Alagna) buying at $19,000 to $30,000. THE MARKET IS SOFT…!,!
The middle price buyers are about gone just like mile middle class Americans.
Now to see what the last 300+ sell for. And the in a month another 910 will hit the block.
-
Looks like Harris starts bidding on anything that hits $250,000. Pollack must have a well of money. Now he said he is concentrating on buying mares to build up his breeding shed. I wish him the best but I say he'll lose 10's of millions.
-
Not that it matters, however, if his goal is to be a smaller version of Diamond Creek, Brittany, Crawford----the absolute first thing he should do is hire Bob Marks. Bob knows more about pedigrees, families, breeding, etc., than anyone is business today. Period. If he wants to get a farm, then he will need a premier farm/operations manager too. Maybe Zubrod is available, LOL.
Bob built the entire business model and broodmare band for Peretti and made that entire operation self-sustaining, profitable, etc. Before Bob was brought on board, Perretti was losing money, racing horses, breeding, etc. Bob turned Perretti into not just a commercial breeder, but a major force in the breeding business. Regardless, like I always say----unless I am racing against him, I wish him the best of luck and all the best! LOL.

We might know more about this come Sunday. What are the odds he will be scratched sick ?? 3-1 last week now after the draw its even money.

Karl was withdrawn? Buyers had no interest, or not going to stand him, or both!
I have no idea. Nobody is even talking about this. Does it mean he's racing again next year? I don't know, but with two major breeders owning him, who knows? What discussions took place in the past between these two breeders? Who knows. Nobody knows what's really going on with this colt soundness wise, health wise, and even ability/talent wise. Too many unknowns. LOL.
