New owners at Hawthorne. Deal contingent on lawsuits and liens being settled against Carey family vs. contractors who got stiffed.
Once deal is completed, racino coming with specified set aside of profits for purses. This is good news for the horsemen.
Could be a case of too little, too late but the sentiment is something is better than nothing.

That place should have shuttered 5 years ago

Hawthorne has been pulling the wool over everybody's eyes for years. I'll say that this is it. Their first card for this Sunday only drew 53 horses for 7 races, not good! T-
Breds.

The latest Hawthorne debacle - they owe Roberts Communications so much ( the satellite provider used to show the simulcast signals ) that Roberts cut them off. Hawthorne then contracted with some nickel dime provider and if you've been to a Hawthorne OTB during the last few weeks, I'm sure you noticed the screens freezing during the simulcast...I was at Villa Park Sunday night...EVERY Northfield race we couldn't see because of freezing screens....and this is happening at ALL their OTBs..
-
Hawthorne deal in the works. Being sold to people already in the casino/gambling/slots biz. Deal will include a portion of profits sunk into purses. New owners will commit to deals withi thoroughbred and harness factions. 62za.clp hcx.1

I HOPE YOUR RIGHT BALMORAL FAN
SO MANY ILLINOS GUYS INCLUDING MYSELF WANNA COME AND RACE IN OUR HOME STATE ..
IM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED
BUT IM VERY SKEPTICAL,,
tmbz1
-
Lucparc, you have reason to be skeptical, I give Hawthorne a 10% chance of being around in 2026.
-
Also skeptical of this….we saw what happened to Arlington when sold out. That place might just turn to being a casino full time
-
Remember the glory days of the Arlington Million and then Sportsman's Park at night. Never to return!!!!!
-
Any truth to the rumor that t-bred owners are involved, or the the t-bred horsemen/association are going in as a partner? Not sure how the compliance and licensing would work out, but it's a good idea. Not surprised it's the t-bred and not the s-bred owners/horsemen. Nothing new there. The s-bred people are always last to the table or not invited at all, and when they are, they get outgunned every single time. It's too bad they haven't learned there lesson.
-
Just hope the New Owner can allow a new racetrack to be built for Harness…and get rid of that bill with 35 mile radius

ALL STAY OPEN IF CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT AGREES TO PAY HUGE DEBTS BY HAWTHORNE
-
Sounds like regardless of outcome, harness racing at Hawthorne is done.
Either track closes or Caesars moves forward as T-bred only racino
-
I honestly hope somehow racing can continue there
for gamblers...the long long stretch is nice
times are changing-- the realistic side of me says they will probably close the track for good
-
Ihha guy just called me
He thinks hawthorn will be sold before Memorial Day
And harness’ will have a rebirth in few yrs
-
Granted, reportedly Hawthorne has been poorly managed but why would anyone invest
money, of that scale, in harness racing? Not buying it. More lip service for Illinois horseman.
-
this is a duh type question....
but why didn't the Carey family partner with a major casino corporation a long time ago?
the casino would have been completed easily a few years ago-they could have financed everything and Careys would get a lesser percentage due to their debt
at least in that scenario racing could have lasted a handful of of more years
-
I was told Harrahs to buy Hawthorne.

easy answer the idiot wanted to do it all by himself
he turned down 3 casinos that i know of ,,prob a few more

I was told Harrahs to buy Hawthorne.
If Harrah's buys it, there will be NO RACINO! See Pompano Park! If Harrah's could, they'd eliminate harness racing @ Harrah's Philadelphia, and Hoosier Park too!
-
Harrah's is committed to stick it to Churchill Downs because they own 50% of Rivers casino and ruined thoroughbred racing at Arlington Park. That common enemy made this deal with Hawthorne and Harrah's happen in a small but significant way.
Some of the Carey cousins who own shares told Tim Carey they no longer had any confidence in his methods but I heard from 1 cousin that their names were included in at least 2 lawsuits involving mechanics liens for unpaid work done during the demolition/construction phase that halted.
Everybody is hopeful this deal goes through and all the unpleasantness goes with it.

WILL TIM THE PIGEON ADMIT HES A CLOWN SOON? ngc3 ngc3 ngc3

At some point, Carey management may be trying to avoid a creditors committee. Liens, judgments, and the like can always screw up a sale or deal. Just another problem a potential buyer or partner has to deal with. This is one of the oldest tracks in the nation, and it's been in the Carey family for over a century. Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves. The first generation creates and builds it, the second generation spends and enjoys it, and the third generation loses it. Today's day and age, starting with OTB's and inept, mismanagement, then to casinos, gaming, technology, etc., and continued ineptness and mismanagement, is killing for too many racetracks, and the sport and industry.

Latest from an insider, Harrah's is willing to go all-in on a racino at Hawthorne. Part of the grand plan is an interstate stakes series between Harrah's properties in Illinois and Indiana and possibly Louisiana and Pennsylvania. Imagine a harness stakes that starts at Hawthorne, then Hoosier, then Harrah's Philadelphia? Could be a game changer for the sport. For the runners a same set of races starting in LA, then IN, IL. The possibilities are pretty interesting.
-
NOW HE LOST SIGNALS FROM ANYTHING THTAT CHURCHILL DOWNS SIMULCASTS THEY DONT PAY ANYBODY.
That alone will make this year's Kentucky Derby a possible no go at the OTBs.
-
Cmon Balmoralfan.. A four state series. ngc3 THey just need the signed
consent from Santa and the Easter Bunny ;D
-
Balmoral closing was awful. At the end it was real cheap. Before that it was a good track to bet. I hope that harness racing becomes relevant again in IL.

First of all--it is Caesars, the parent company of Harrahs which makes all the corporate decisions
Caesars owns Hoosier, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Scioto, Chester and Fonner Park in Nebraska
they own no tracks in Louisiana-so I am not sure how that fantasy plan would work
just another casino conglomerate waiting/positioning themselves for decouplng
-
what was the sell price ?
-
So if this is real.....will it be s-breds, t-breds, or both?
In this specific case, if I was the casino company, and I had to choose a necessary evil.....I would pick the t-breds. They would view it as the devil you know.
-
what was the sell price ?
Hawthorne sells 65% interest to casino
No choice or track closes
-
Hawthorn holding hopes to keep 30 percent of casino
New ownership want them completely out
HAWTHORNE WILL NOT HAVE THE SIGNAL FOR THE KENTUCKY DERBY
FACT
ITS DESPERATION TIME FOF THSES MISFITS
-
WOW ARE YOU KIDDING???
I WAS TOLD 65% WAS SET IN 🪨 BY HAWTHORNE
-
I guess no announcement by 3/31.
-
Got news by a reliable source:He NIC the KID who knows more about inside informayion about anythin.
There is no DEAL. TRAINERS are try to sell there low price claimers and move on. They no the end is near.
