Shitty. I liked the late hours with the west coast time difference.
-
More horses to Hawthorne, Vernon, and a few other tracks if this is true!
-
HAWTHORNE ON LIFE SUPPORT
MIGHT CLOSE SOON OR BECOME RACINO IF CAESARS ENTERTAINMENT AGREES TO PURCHASE 65%
-
can someone post when todays decision is made
-
Seems like it's life support now. What is it, 4 month meet, racing two days a week?

Actually it's one of the few tracks not on life support. That's more an East Coast welfare supported harness racing you're thinking of. Cal Ex is just dying a slow death and this may be euthanasia.

Cal Expo reports that last year, thoroughbred racing at the state fair accounted for $650,000. Revenue from harness
racing last year was $22,000.
I think that says it all.

But harness racing creates jobs and contributes to society!!! They're gonna lose $60 a day in revenue!!!! 😂

The reason alot of them are so keen on racing continuing there is because they actually 'LIVE' there.
Classic harness racing trivia tidbit. ngc3

Free rides. Same as people still stabled on the grounds wherever that still exists and not having to pay actual stall rent. It's called squatting on a whole other level.
-
In real numbers. Cal Expo last year contributed to the state the equivalent of a full time job that pays $10.57 an hour. Representing the entire harness racing "industry" in the state. Absolutely fucking hilarious. ngc3

Well it is California where squatting or living in a tent under a bridge or on the streets is commonplace.

True. Cal Ex is considered high class then. Something this all demonstrates is a peek into the future when state welfare that supports harness racing elsewhere is pulled and forced to stand on its own. Those numbers aren't fake. They're reality.

Those numbers of revenue for all of 2024 were jaw dropping to me. I really feel awful for the good horsemen and women in California. As I don't see how racing there will survive, hope I'm wrong.
