Title: WOW, Leap To Fame the Aussie horse just destroyed the NZ record
Post by: TimTimTimbo on April 04, 2025, 04:20:17 AM
2200 meters (1 mile 3/8) by over 2 seconds in the $1 million dollar race there. The track was listed as easy after showers all night and they rated 1.52 rate for the entire journey which is fast for down there. The McCarthy horse Don Hugo driven by Luke who won The Miracle mile in Aussie was well beaten. Cambridge Raceway is a 5/8th of a mile race.

That was Leap To Fame's 50th win so 63 starts, 50 wins, 9 seconds, and 2 thirds for approx. 4.3 million in earnings

The race replay is here, they were attacking 3 wide early and often

I’ve been watching this horse on my computer for a long time now-and I know friends down under who know their horses-they all say ,myself included, that this horse is the best they have seen. I’ve never seen anything like it.
He’s a pleasure to watch and has a heart like no other.
A true Champion-has won at all distances-on all surfaces at every track both in New Zealand and Australia. Breaking all kinds of records.
Wish there were more like him-a once in a lifetime horse.
Different racing here—not sure if he could beat horses like Bulldog—but I wouldn’t put anything past this horse-he can fly out of the gate if he has to—and there is no bottom to him-he can run a mile flat out and he wants to win.
Congratulations to all connections—what a ride this is.

Awesome horses and bizarre bullring style drivers. Quite a spectacle.

More and more horses are being bought from Down Under. They start them late down there and they turn out to be some top open horses here. Saw an open last week where 7 of the 8 horses were imported

Best pacer I’ve seen in my lifetime including all in the United States. Don’t know what’s thought of driver but drives him with no thought of saving ground at any time.

Gee, for a second, I thought I was watching a race from Yonkers.

That's why the drivers from down there are so good.  Different distances travel closer, I think (Not sure) the push-out rule is still in effect where you can come off the fence and force the horse on the outside to go three wide. There were limits to it but it made for great racing

Yeah, that Leap to Fame is something else. He's Bettor's Delight out of an Art Major which crosses well. The 3rd horse is an Art Major out of a Bettor's mare.

Sorry, Lazarus was better.

Lazarus was sick when he raced for Takter, not anywhere near his best IMO

Some of his races with Purdon were amazing. I never saw anything like it.
