Title: Thank you USTA!
Post by: Zack on April 11, 2025, 01:24:18 PM
We can’t thank you enough for the fine organization that you have from your Management right through to your directors all top class!

Harness racing would not exist without such a governing body.

The way you handled the Bourgault indictment was second to none!
Special thanks to Brice Cote for an impeccable job!

We would also like to thank Mr. Gural for the rebirth of the Meadowlands! Without you Sir there would be no harness racing in New Jersey!

When should we expect to see Jeff Gural's statue on Mount Rushmore?

Whatever the USTA is doing today, IMO is far too little and very far too late. However, here's the important point-----it's far too little because they have little to no authority. They are not a governing body for governance. Only for membership and record keeping. This last fiasco with the sanctions and fines was a joke IMO. Personally, I feel whatever they are doing now is simply so they don't get left behind and deemed to be useless and futile. The USTA does not want to get shut out whatever this industry and sport ends up doing for the future. Ironically, nobody said a word about the USTA, an organization "controlled" by Russell Williams, and a related organization, investigating and handing out fines and sanctions to a major competitor of Hanover. Conflict of interest anyone?

You bring up some credible points however they have to be careful not to open themselves up to lawsuits. I really don’t know what we would do without them. I feel that the harness industry would be in a shambles if they were dissolved.

I am not suggesting the USTA be dissolved. What I have always said is that they are NOT a governing body for governance of the sport or industry-----only for membership and recordkeeping-----and that they SHOULD NOT be involved with policing and enforcement. Period. It is not part of their mission or authority.

They actually have an outstanding array of directors. I would like to see them take complete control of harness racing.

Oh so you admit the directors who are elected by the membership of each district are not in control of harness racing! Thank you for verifying exactly what I've been saying. Meaning the USTA only serves itself and the executive board who call all the shots. Example: 90% of the membership wants freeze brands continued as mandatory. Yet your so called outstanding directors voted against it unanimously. Meaning the USTA directors want Standardbreds unidentifiable in KILL PENS. Thank you thank you thank you for admitting it!!! So you're a fucking horse abusing killer too who wants them GONE when the industry is finished with them. Just another bottom feeding scumbag. Peace!!!  tmbz1

Pay attention dummy. I would like the directors to have more power not less. The USTA is the only one that can save this sinking ship.

I would like to see the exact opposite. I would like to see them stay in their stated lane, not their newly desired lane. The Directors, like with any many industry/membership organizations, are laypeople to the organization. They have been relegated to very rubber-stamp, fait accompli, etc. I know many directors, and while it's the same with any organization, but more profound here, there is a lot of political footballing. Show me when an Antonacci, a George Segal, a John Grant serve on that board, not Russell Williams, and then I'll say they have a powerful, high-quality, etc., board. As everyone knows, the District directors are representatives, liaisons, etc.

The scope, purview, and mission statement of the USTA, since the beginning, as been a membership and record keeping organization. Changing your job description doesn't make you qualified. They have been nonexistent outside that scope for the last 40 years. Personally, I think they should stay that way.

These particular officials in this district would be my pick to officiate harness racing! These are the shakers and movers and harness racing.
Mark Ford   Campbell Hall, NY
Mike Torcello   Hamburg, NY
Ray Schnittker   Middletown, NY
Scott Warren   Harrington, DE
Shawn Wiles  CHAIRPERSON   Monticello, NY
John Matarazzo   Saratoga, NY
Kim L. Crawford   Stillwater, NY

I think I might move Kim Crawford up the second position.

They are all prominent businessmen that have been successful in the horse business. They’re not hiding between two dumpsters videotaping horses. By the way, when are you gonna get a job?

I see you have no background in economics. There are some wonderful buying opportunities out there but I think that's above your pay grade.

I agree with you. I was watching some of the thoroughbred races today the grand stands were packed when I go to the track the trotters are empty. We need a group of men and women that are business minded as well as creative.

We have so many positive people involved in sport and then you have the losers that do nothing but spread bad news this doesn't help.

We need a major attraction to bring people to the track also the race paddock should be open to the public where people can get a one on one relationship with the trainers drivers and horses as well as the grooms.

If Monticello raceway had a rock concert and spent a little money could you imagine the people that would attract and some of those people would actually bet on the horses.

It's obvious the sport and the industry is in trouble. It will be the proverbial "it will get worse before it gets better" so to speak. However, there is plenty of talented people who can play a role in the getting better. While I always said Gulfstream Park was like the track of the future, even it's viability is now in question vis a vis highest and best use, and it now appears Stronach is no supporter of the sport and racing unless she gets what she wants. It will end up like other tracks, more money into non-racing, and less money into racing.

Good point! If I was advising Mr. Gural I will offer a suggestion to say something like,  hey why don’t we have a rock concert or two this summer and see what happens.

I once saw the Red Hot Chilli Peppers at Gulfstream, LOL. Coincidentally, none other than David Rovine was a corporate executive there at the time. Some marketing position.

At this point what do they have to lose? Can you imagine a professional band coming to Monticello on a Saturday night? That would take creativity and money. But you have to spend money to make money..
