While you fools focus on me, which is hilarious btw. Let's do a recap of the previous two decades or so and see where the industry stands today. For two decades now for the most part harness racing is supported by state welfare. From purses to breeding. The list of weekly violations of the rules are endless. Everyone cries about it yet nobody does anything about it because most are guilty of doing it too! Along comes 2020, the FBI swoops in and you all know the rest. First real evidence to the public of just how disgusting harness racing really is. Two years ago a guy gets mad at a horse for stepping on his foot and now he is found guilty of two felonies facing serious prison time. The NY Times even prints an expose in a four page Sunday article telling all and how it loses money while being supported by EVERYONE else. You lost Scarborough, Northville, Pompano and Freehold. Two more hanging by a string. Then you have a trustee of the Ag fund who two years ago cried they wanted shipped semen and now is telling smaller breeders to sell their mares because the bottom line of the big shots is being threatened because the state called their bluff and he never saw it happen!!! And finally, New England has a great idea to help promote the sport. Herald the arrival of a convicted felon who stabbed his wife to Plainridge. YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3
P.S. Let's not forget who gets hurt the most. THE HORSES. How many will find their way to the kill pens this week???

Harness Racing Revolution, while i have disagreements with you on some issues, I always felt that your love for the horses is a great thing. And yes, most tracks could never survive without some sort of "stipend" from the state they race in. In the years when I raced 4 cheap claimers at Pompano Park, I was able to meet some really great folks in the industry. There were some "bad apples" too, but for the most part these folks were hard workers. And while I never made any real money in "the game", it was a fun experience. One question I do have on the many posts you've made over the years. Do you think that Harness Racing should just stop existing? That the sport becomes "no more"? I'm curious on what is your "end game" for this industry.

The problem is most people cannot distinguish between the industry and the sport. And also most have NO idea what makes a business self sustaining. Like Mr. Gural told me when we met, they're all indoctrinated welfare recipients who were banging on his door for more money the day sports betting was ratified. Just because this is what you do doesn't mean everyone else needs to support it to keep you "employed" at what you want to do. First I love the horses and the SPORT. As for your industry? Yep, like any other failure it should be defunded. There is no business model that shows it can ever even remotely support itself and the money wasted on it should be earmarked for far more deserving entities. If harness racing disappeared tomorrow nobody outside the industry would notice, it literally does nothing for society. What can be done is people wake up and rid the industry of those you allow to govern it. Thus why the USTA has spent 2 million dollars to fight HISA. And who btw who approved spending your membership funds? The most wealthy and powerful men in harness racing, the USTA executive board led by their President Russell Williams who owns the largest breeding farm in the country. AND is now fighting another breeding farm who is threatening his bottom line. How many times have the district directors voted on an agenda that the majority of the membership willed them to??? The only way to change the INDUSTRY is either dismantle and replace your so called leadership, OR allow the government to take over. In the end the free money will stop. Burying your heads in the sand will end up forcing people in this "industry" to actually find work in the real world.

Better keep your places on the state funding line! ngc3

I've got an idea, and to be clear i have long stated the industry needs a shake up and is far from perfect
you guys that hate the industry so much
get the fuck out , stop paying attention , find another way to waste your time, enough verbal diarrhea
there are good people who enjoy it and do wonderful things for the sport and the horses
ever been to the Lexington sale and see all the money raised for different charities, some within the industry and some outside, also the breeders crown challenge for different charities

Boo hoo. Then step up and clean it up. Far from perfect? More like criminal. And if you don't figure out a way to toss the trash I agree, the decent people will lose all. Until then the decline is snowballing.

Just saw Tony Alagna is bugging out of NJ too. I'd just like to give a big BRAVVOOOOOO to Mark Ford and the SBOANJ for absolutely DESTROYING harness racing in New Jersey. Maybe Mark can buy it and finally do business in the state where he supposedly represents NJ horsemen. Won't be many left.

Here ya go harness "industry". Anyone gonna buy it? Or will it become another Amazon warehouse?

I left the sport as an owner about 5-6 years ago. Got tired of getting run over by the likes of Oakes and Surick. Trust me there are bigger cheats still left. 99% of my betting switched to T-breds.
Buggy racing was fun in the beginning, where else can you sit behind a horse, I’m not riding a T-bred.
Mike is right, this sport is doomed

The people who point out the precarious position of harness racing are the one who love the sport. If it was not for the handouts, harness racing would be in dire straits. In PA over 80% of the purses are funded by handouts. It is only a matter of time where there are budget issues and that money is going to be diverted. Put yourself in the position of someone running for election. Would you rather tell the voters you are going to raise taxes or take the horse racing handouts? What do you think would be the outcome if there was a referendum on the handouts? The general public could care less about harness racing.
It is the people who ignore the precarious position of harness racing who are the real haters of the sport/industry.
