GALE, William (Bill) - Of Innerkip, Ontario passed away peacefully at Woodstock Hospital surrounded by his family on Monday, November 19, 2018. Born in Toronto on October 18th, 1948, he was the loving husband of Janice Gale of 47 years. Cherished father of Jason Gale and his wife Veronica of Ingersoll, and Jennifer Gale and her partner Jeremy Jackson of Woodstock. He was the proud grandfather of Chloe, Lola, Jaylen, Heather, Jasmine (Aaron), and great grandfather of Archer. A lifelong horseman, Bill was known by many as a consummate gentleman who was a highly decorated harness driver. His achievements include, but were not limited to, an induction to the Windsor, Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and then went on to receive the highest honor possible for his occupation, an induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2015. Bill’s hobbies away from the racetrack included spending time with his young granddaughters or hitting the links to play some golf. Bill was also known to go on road trips with no set destination where he could tell his countless stories. Bill was able to have a great sense of humor right until the end. Bill is survived by his siblings, Ron Gale (Mitzie) David Gale (Rosa) Larry Gale (Cheryl) and Dianne Copping (late Bill Copping) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill is predeceased by his parents Reginald and Helen Gale, his brothers Frank, and Ross Gale. Following Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or service. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Palliative Care Team at Woodstock Hospital for their efforts that went above and beyond to make sure all needs were met in the final stages of Bill’s life. Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the Woodstock Hospital-Palliative Care Unit, and can be made through SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME , 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock, ON (519-537-3611
