Why are you so surprised at this announcement. Years back WEG looked at the Meadowlands and more recently the 3 NYRA tracks for purchase. In both cases they backed off. In NJ it was because of the uncertainty of racing because of Christie and with NYRA and Albany there was too much grey area. WEG has money and their master plan is like the movie Field of Dreams, if you build it they will come. Their idea is forget everyone else let us be the best their is and let the chips fall where they may.

Drove to Woodbine today. The entire east side of the grounds are torn up and under construction. This would be the area of the old employee parking, and the east side Valet Parking area.

Iceman  ....   Greenwood didn't have "public transit" like there will be into Woodbine.   Greenwood had a simple streetcar system.   The GO system and the subway are Toronto's important public transit.  It would be interesting to know how many people will be within a travel time of 40 minutes to the track on public transit!!   I think that number will be huge.

well they need to do something , there is a lot of land that has sat empty for 20 years
not sure on the $90m , weg would have used the land as a lot of their contribution to the total cost

again this shows the disparity between tbreds and harness at weg( they don't care about harness but cant say that since in the eyes of the government they support both...nudge/wink)
the harness gets kicked out to Milton where you better have a car to get to and forget about week nights , traffic is horrible , so a few folks show up on a Saturday night in the summer but really it is a studio, a production facility to send a signal across Canada and the usa and they hope to break even on it

in comparison the tbreds get a new turf course and now a public transit hub with more to come

The GO station is planned for the south east area of the property. What they are doing now could be the start of casino expansion, or perhaps a hotel as well.
