The Open pace -- always a good bunch of horses had an uncoupled entry of JD Perrin.
I flipped on TVG and prior to the post parade, there was $800 in the exacta pool and the exacta probables showed the exacta of 6 & 1 was paying $2 ( probably $2 with change obviously ) at $2.80 payoff, there probably was about $500 in exacta's wagered while horses in the paddock....
Hmmm,,,,, figured, I gotta see how this turns out.
Gate folds and the 1 - Dan Noble ( no sires stake drives at Northfield ) rolls hard, chasing and instead of letting the second favorite (last weeks Open winner) go, puts Sutton in a hole.
Quarter 25.4
As soon as the 7 takes a seat, the brakes are locked up and here comes the stablemate and favorite the 6 - Jeremy Smith ( had a huge night, underrated as he doesn't drive any of the big stables ) motors to the front
Second Quarter 29.0
They roll down the backside, the 6 like a well bet horse pulls away and we have a battle for second (remember the exacta ) as the 1 and 3 hit the wire ---- for a dead heat....
6-1 exacta $2.20
Now I'm sure the very accomplished judges at Scioto noticed the betting pattern and the manner the race unfolded to speak to those involved. I mean after all, I'm just a small bettor who walked into the house after sons baseball game got rained out after 4 innings and flipped on the TV to watch a race before heading out to dinner.
