Why?

Why do some tracks show miles per hour along with the normal fractional times? Completely useless info for horse racing and handicapping. So until they mix nascar and horse racing together please stop with the mph readings!

Good question, we all understand fractions, final times, and using Hoosier Park as an example, I did call and was transferred to an Emily, in marketing for the track, I left a vm to please respond with the answer - why they do it.  From my perspective high 20's mid thirties is not very impressive in mph!  Thanks Easy Irv!   ;D

New people to the game might wonder how fast they are going.  I'd like to see top speed on some leavers.  It doesn't hurt anything.  Find something else to bitch about!  Starting to sound like the crybaby horsemen when the handouts get lower!  tmbz1

15za.bd Harness Racer's was the WINNING ANSWER as I suspected!  15za.bd

Emily called back from Hoosier Park and explained that the GM meets with all the staff at times, gathers feedback and looks to make thoughtful implementations.  So they got a new graphics package for televised racing because many customers to the casino who were new fans of harness racing wanted to know in MPH how fast the horses were going and were the opposite of us more experienced and didn't understand fractions as well.

Thank you EMILY, she's awesome, such great professional, friendly people I've spoken to racing at or working out of Hoosier Park this last week, and previous weeks too.  Coincidentally I spoke to her cousin this week, Tyler George LOL!!   ;D

It is a little unique to show MPH, but as its already been said here. It is to promote speed for the non-betting, or slightly inclined to bet crowd.  Not really a bad thing.

  • dougie: IIB, I think the mayor will sign the bill if it reaches his desk. The optics on this issue is bad for the horse carriage industry. Animal activists are adept to using the media to enlist horror and anger by the public.

  • Ignorance Is Bliss: It's now a bill with city council. Public hearings will be scheduled then the council votes on it. If passed it's sent to the Mayor to sign into law. He has already said he's in. Marte just took over, Bob Holden is the actual author of the bill who retired last year.

  • dougie: IIB, I have been reading some of the work Councilman Marte has been doing on this issue. I think he might be successful with passing the 'Ryders Law" Bill this time around. The image of the horse dead on the street has even been seen here everywhere. If the animal activists can get this on the ballot, who knows how the vote will go.
