Drivers sitting straight up in the bike. How quaint!

Does anyone know what became of Bothe? The man could call a race especially if it was my horse zooming by everyone else.

After he sued (and then settled with) the Meadowlands in 1999 and left a short while after, the last "gig" I recall for him was out in Fair Meadows during 2015.  I believe he now lives in Buskill, PA and would be around 73.

announcing is a step away from handicapping. why remain in racing at all, if his addiction was that bad.

I thought he was a good announcer. 3/4 in ... & they are on their way home now, zooming...by!

My memory was jogged after seeing the LA Times story, which I couldn’t open btw. I recall Bothe was announcing at the M. He and others knew he had gambling issues but was trying to shake it. The mgmt then insisted he become the morning line handicapper for their programs. Bothe claimed this job, which he did not want, put him back in the toilet. The rest is a bad history.

  • Bitter Truth: That Golden Tempo , I'm afraid is  a money burner. Gets so far back. Was in range but just hung and raced even in the stretch. Didn't see a Derby winner in there in my opinion.

  • dougie: He got good tactical speed. I really thpught he had a big shot to pull it off.

  • Trigger: I thought BT & I had a real good shot w/ a 110 4/5, wide but nice momentum, and then a sharp left turn mid stretch ended that  ngc3
