Well I only know what I saw in the paddocks so here we go:
At Freehold, Liberty Bell, Brandywine I thought Harold Kelly was great. Herve was a quick how are you and Joe Schwind seemed aloof and a bit suspicious to me. I know Joe would occasionally stiff us by getting boxed at Freehold when he could have easily gotten out. He would come back like it was just another day at the office. But to be fair when he did good he looked awfully good.
At the Meadowlands in the 2003-2008 area my least favorite by far was Jim Morrill. I mention those years because back then the rumors were flying that he had a gambling problem and who knows what else. If he drove one of ours and won he was all smiles or before some races he would say see you in the winners circle. But if a horse had a bad night, tied up, whatever it wasn’t unusual for him to tell our trainer to never put his name down on that horse again. A very erratic personality back then. The very good guys to me were Ron Pierce, Mike Lachance and especially Brian Sears.
At Pompano Park I never knew what to make of the now retired Andy Santeramo. He seemed ok but I saw him more often at the bar and windows than before a race. I was told he was once a pretty good driver on the YR/RR circuit.
