A Hidden Bounce
« on: September 17, 2023, 06:39:22 PM »
As all of you know, I have been the unoffical President of The Horseplop division of the CONFEDERATE fan club all year singing his praises till many are tired of hearing it. So keeping in mind how crazy I am about the horse, I ask all of you, but mostly the former trainers and drivers and astute owners a question. Keep in mind I am not trying to start a major debate or anything. just want some opinions. Is it me or did Confederate not seem as sharp today overall as he has in past races. I have watched the replay several times and as I noted earlier, he went a great mile...good speed early and late. He was fast, but he didn't seem as "quick". I was watching his ears in response to Timmy, the look on his face and Timmy's hands and stretch driving tactics. I am a great believer in the bounce factor after world record/track record/lifetime marks as I pointed out correctly and predicted with IMS at the Meadows. Did we see a bit of a bounce today with CONFEDERATE despite his winning. My question has nothing to do with time at all. No one expected him to duplicate or exceed his sensational time of 2 weeks ago. He is a brilliant horse and a great achiever - just seemed a bit different today. Interested in opinions.

Like people the horse may have been ouchy today, or not game for the race so he put in a game but not over worked effort today.

Thats true. I think tetrick was told get the job done but save the horse today. The ears and expressions were most likely because the horse was amiss he wasnt asked for anything today. While still waiting for his cue.

I was there. Agree with Fug he didn't seem quite as sharp today, but maybe that was the plan -- just win the race.  Warmed up the same as the WR mile.  Left to get around the crab --- first over grinded to the lead and cleared by two lengths. Conditions weren't the same --70s, drizzling all afternoon -- no humidity.  More like a fast training mile for him. Which proves how dominant he is.  Apparently he's racing once more at the Red Mile -- then maybe Indiana -- then definitely retirement.  Impressive mile for the day -- Mammamia Volo -- a fifth of a second off the WR.

Yeah, i guess we only get to see him 2 or 3x  I heard that in the interview with Bob Heyden, who is starting to look like dripping candle wax. Heyden said on air, Walner was on the verge of a special mile today.. lol  It WAS special, only Mammamia Volo jerked her fucking bridle. ngc3 ngc3 ngc3 ngc3
