rainman 2, i guess you used to bowl at those lanes on University/Southgate in Tamarac. I forgot the name of those lanes. Had good burgers and pool tables. Did you ever head out to the Greenbriar for a bite after the races. The place was packed with horsefolk. I remember the days when Pompano drew big crowds on Friday and Saturday nights. Long before the casinos were even a thought in anyone's minds. LOL!

I moved down here in 85.  But if I remember correctly, the driving range across racetrack road and I believe a famous hockey player named Rosarie (Rosey) Paiement owned a bar next to the range.  Since it was on PPK property, you could bet PPK there.  He also owned a restaurant in either Pompano or Fort Lauderdale too!

With all the "designer" drugs coming thru the Port of Miami and M.I.A. and a good connection at the Thoroughbred venues they have the ability to be the only one in the game with something fresh off the boat! No go =NO DOUGH! 11.wp

There you go!  The thoroughbred people have a lot more money than the standardbred people!  Money talks!
Which group will get this first??

rainman 2, i am like you in that repect. I was told pretty early in the "game", that most lose money on the "trotters". The "pacers" too! LOL! But i enjoyed the excitement of heading off to the barn early to watch them train. Pompano held their "qualifiers" at 10am, and i was thrilled to sit and talk with some legends in the sport. I even had a coffee with George Steinbrenner one morning as we watched one of his horses work for the Breeders Crown that year at Pompano. A funny guy! LOL! I'd get back in the game, but Maine racing is in dire straits these days.

Billy Gallagher trained for Steinbrenner, and won the Breeders Crown with Personal Banner, beating Moni Maker.

  • dougie: Trigger.....you know i'm a GOPer but not MAGA. What they are doing scooping up people with no criminal records who have been here for 20 years or more is just wrong. Only criminals should be picked up and deported. There's enough throughout the country to keep them busy.
