The Miracle
« on: May 30, 2024, 10:51:52 AM »
Gambler's today aren't doing much to help their own cause, they're hoping an angel comes from heaven that performs a miracle and makes racing better. The average gambler needs to let people who can make changes for the good get involved. That does not include making calls to the USTA and WEG, because they're not interested in making the game better. The truth is, I don't know a single person who is doing well in today's racing. The drivers in harness racing believe they can put a shitshow on every night, and the 2 or 3 people that commentate during the down time sit there and talk about the beauty happening in front of them. Racing has never been less competitive and boring that it has been today. I honestly don't even know if there are any bettors left; it's just a ton of addicted gamblers betting $10 a race along with the CAW groups, that's the whole clientele. If you watch a track like western fair, the announcer comes on every race, calling value horses before the odds even come up, how the fuck can a horse be a value horse if you can't even see the odds, its a complete joke the people working there. If you look at thoroughbred tracks like Gulfstream, Santa Anita, and Belmont, they hire people that sleep and breathe racing to do the commentary. The Belmont show has guys there talking about important information, like track bias and how they think the race is going to go. At Santa Anita, the women actually enters $10'000 handicapping contests with her own money, and comes out with amazing information of how horses look on the track. If you watch harness racing, they hire people that are incompetent. Take Hoosier and Woodbine, you'll see a horse be 12:1 in the book, and you know that its a mistake, and that the horse is gonna go off between 6 to 5 and 2 to 1 cause he had tonnes of horse in his last start. The group of people that Hoosier and Woodbine hire don't even watch replays, and don't even have an obvious 6 to 5 shot in their top 4 because they don't know what they're doing. There's only 1 track that cares even a little about the customer, and that's the Meadowlands. No matter how much I read 'Gural does this' and 'Gural does that', at least they do something.

I'm not fond of the WEG commentators, but they DO show replays of horses with troubled trips as part of their pre game show.
They also got rid of Monique Vag (finally).

2 guys left the broadcast to become judges. Obviously they weren't paid very well.

If the neadowlands cared about customers, they wouldn't allow huge CAW players into the pools. And they would remove the people on tv who teach people to make horrible bets

If the people follow the commentators and get, whose fault is it?

I don't understand your point at all.
Why should the track have people teaching anyone terrible wagering strategy? Complete silence around races would be thousands of times better for business

it's your own to bet.  if you follow the tout and lose, nobody to blame but yourself.

Obviously, that is true.
But that is not the point of discussion. The poster mentioned the emadowpands caring about the customer and I responded to the topic.

realistically those commentators or whatever its a part time job
secondly they are there to help gamblers, perhaps more so the novice bettor as most seasoned guys do their own thing
however  if you know the horses , watch all the races and talk to trainers and drivers you should be able to help folks with a few decent winners most nights during your broadcast

the tbreds do a much better job of this

They are killing any novice bettors who listen and believe these people are helpful.

Imagine learning from an expert that it is too scary to single your best opinion in a p4, instead using 3 other horses on your ticket to be safe.
Or the best approach is to bet the chalk in every race
Or to approach the late double by figuring out a way to use all chalk and get 2/1 on your money.

This advice gives a novice zero percent chance to stick around and become a non novice cause their pockets will inevitably  get destroyed which is not fun for them
