Sorry Pap little before my time.. but I get what your saying. For me that would be Shady Daisy whenever she raced at Scioto against the open mares.. leave them in the dust. I can never remember a horse being kicked out of a certain track.. but I do remember horses being barred from betting quite often. I ONLY turn 50 next month which is young for harness racing and horseplop.. which is a damn shame
i am 59 but started early for only being 50 you have plenty of knowledge and experience--and i can appreciate thati am very much enjoying these conversations lately--not the norm for this site
turning back the hands of time about 45 years or so....whoever drove My Bill Forwood understood perfectly. he would come down from YR/RR and on sunday nights, when Liberty Bell raced their open/invitational , the race was over at the half--he bottomed them out rather easily and the others never had a shotMy Bill Forwood would often be kicked out by Liberty Bell-yes they actually did that back then-then MBF would have to go back to NY.i think it was a Patterson that handled MBF-but my memory isnt what it used to beMBF was one of my favorite horses-i often would watch the races on channel 9 WOR TV on saturday nights with Stan Bergstein and Spencer Ross--MBF could compete with with FFA types-but would win by open lenghts at Liberty Bell
This is the best thread all year. Civil and very interesting. My 2 cents:Agree 100% about the Sat Mohawk races. I ended up ahead (Thank you, Scotty Z) and coulda won a lot more if I spread a bit in the opening leg of the early P-5. My only complaint is the amount of time between races. Brutal.I admired My Bill Forwood from afar. Back in the day, as you other old timers know, there was no simulcasting, computers or TV coverage. But as an avid reader of the Horseman and Fair World, I got to know and love a lot of horses from out East. MBF was among my favorites along with Mountain Skipper, To Ri Boy, Miss Conna Adios, Deep Run Frosty and Seatrain.I had a mare who was "banded" from Chicago on 2 seperate occasions after beating the top male pacers 2 or 3 times in a row. She won several mare opens out east (YR, FHLD, M1), beat Shady Daisy at Northfield, and won at The Red Mile.So nice to read informed opinions about racing instead all the bullshit that normally permeates Horseplop.
Being 80, I recall My Bill Forward vividly. He raced throughout the Northeast and was owned, if I recall, by people in Maine. Donald Dancer drove him often at Liberty Bell, and Freeman Parker drove him in New England. Not sure if he had a regular chauffeur in the NY Metro area. They tried to breed him, but he never threw too many top horses.
What was the name of your mare and did you ever breed her?
Pacific Flight N. Mixed results as a broodmare. Had an undefeated filly ( 5 for 5 before breaking down) and a multiple stakes winner of over $300,000. And one of her daughters produced Down Under millionaire Chicago Bull. Here she is beating the FFA boys once again while demolishing the world record for aged mares on a half mile track and also removing Presidential Ball as the all age overall track record holder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHIWCE275hwI'm the fat guy in the striped shirt in the winners circle.
