What happened to the emergency Generator?? Don't they have a back-up??

Will the horsemen get reimbursed?? ie prizemoney's split among the horsemen? -Like they did at other tracks when similar event happened.--seems to be the Casino fault.

I was on the escalator when the power went out, it turns out they don't have a lot of emergency lighting there. Way too many dark areas, and someone was bound to fall and hurt themselves. I was wondering the same thing about the horsemen, expenses, prize $, ship ins, etc. I hung around for 1/2 and hour then track announcer came on and said everything cancelled.

Harrah's Philly is located in Chester, PA, just a few miles south of Philadelphia International Airport. The city of Chester is a very poverty-stricken area with lots of crime, and you take your life in your own hands if you venture out at night. There's actually a prison a few blocks from the racetrack/casino. Not sure why they chose that location because the local residents are very poor and can't afford to lose their money gambling. The racing product was much better the first few years with many of the Meadowlands drivers there on a regular basis. Over time the racing has become much cheaper, the purses are low and with the exception of Tetrick and David Miller, none of the other top drivers are there except when they have PA Sire Stakes races.

In PA they have a ruling that if a  race does not race within 5 hours of horses receiving Lasix that race is scratched.

Since racing started at 6.30 and horses started receiving Lasix -4 hours before post--by 8 pm-the first 5-6 races would have been cancelled already and since it would have taken time for track lighting to come on--half the program would have been cancelled. Not sure why they did not try to race the remaining 7-8 races--but probably they were not sure exactly when the problem would be fixed. However--in this day and age--officials, Vets, track personnel,grooms- all get paid before the first race starts--so cancelling does not affect them- they get a free paid Night off-- has become very common in NY and now PA has joined the Club.
