There's some truth to this.  Here's the most common example: The young Beckwith goes for the lead.  If he doesn't get it outright, he quarter moves and has the lead by the 2nd turn.  Like the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps going and going.  So, he's in front at the top of the stretch and may get caught 1 out of 8 times (+/- 1).  Go collect your $2.40.  It just doesn't seem natural and didn't work like this in the "old days".

  • Bitter Truth: That Golden Tempo , I'm afraid is  a money burner. Gets so far back. Was in range but just hung and raced even in the stretch. Didn't see a Derby winner in there in my opinion.

  • Trigger: I thought BT & I had a real good shot w/ a 110 4/5, wide but nice momentum, and then a sharp left turn mid stretch ended that  ngc3
