My biggest complaint is races start an average of 5 minutes past scheduled post time, wasn't like that in the old days. They think it increases the handle, but it doesn't because people just bet later. If they knew the races were starting on time they would adjust.

Sports betting being legal now practically everywhere and you can bet any game, any time from your phone. I'm a lifelong horseplayer and I never bet sports in my life until it became legal, and now a couple of years later by horse racing handle is down 75%.
How many other people are out there just like me?

Great post,,,,,,,,, number one problem is ELITE TURF CLUB allowed access to the pools and no one can beat their AI advantage and just as important is the powers that run horse racing the management  are corrupt and make decision that are poor as much of management in this sport are breeders that never use a non chemist to train their horses and until a outside body of people that fully understand gaming run the show we will see a shit show,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Today we see a video of old lady falling and people just walking around her like nothing is wrong and that is the story of horse racing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, You can say that its not anybody fault the old lady is on the ground and its not up to me to get involved and the law will be with you but is it right......

People saying 1/2 mile track racing is boring.
Can I ask is there a more boring single file racing
track than Mohawk.
When the top drivers are in town for stake races etc
there is a lot more action but on a regular basis?
Oh on top of that the buddy system is out of control.

Eventually when you have watched enough races throughout the years all the races start to look the same just the names change. The excitement becomes lost.

The number one reason is the accessibility to numerous alternant gambling. 

Lottery has greatly expanded over the last 25 years
Casino's within a couple hours drive nearly everywhere, when I grew up you had to go to Vegas on Atlantic City

Illegal gambling/bingo halls.  I live 10 minutes from one, go by there at 3 am and there will still be close to 100 cars.

Legalized sports betting.

I'm sure others can name more, but to me this is the main reason.

 

You can sit down at a blackjack table and play 10 hands in 10 minutes, 10 races take all night plus with zero minutes to post you still have 20 minutes to wait for them to start racing.

How come people haven't mentioned that the payoffs are super low. Some days the highest payoff is around 4.00 for a win bet. Also the pools are lower and lower each year. I really don't think harness can keep up with all of these tracks, because one day the casino money will disappear or certainly be lowered.

Many people in high positions trying to kill the game, that's what hurts racing.
