So you're making it a religious thing?

Back in the day when harness racing had a following,Sunday cards were typically the best cards of the week. I know, you can’t compare today with “back in the day”, unfortunately those days are long gone

I mentioned in another thread about 1 week ago that he was sitting at the next table at Trotters the Friday before last.  I went over to him and asked about a casino at the meadowlands, and he was sure he would have 1 within 2 years.

When it comes to politics, making sense isn’t required. So far AC has been successful in keeping out casinos in other parts of the state since the mid to late 70’s. Taking that one time large subsidy by agreeing to to politic for a casino in the future certainly came back and bit them in the ass. QC has been successful at killing this for 50 years, regardless the shit hole AC has become again. Yes , perhaps there will be a time for a Meadowlands casino, but if it’s 15-20:years , both Gerald and the Meadowlands will be long gone. The writing is on the wall.

He knows a lot more than we do. That's a fact. Listen, like him or not, Jeff is not stupid, not naive, and not disillusioned about what is possible, probable, etc. He may be enthusiastic and even hopeful, but he's not in denial. When the Meadowlands was slated to close, several interested parties were talking, lining up, even reaching out. Gural's call was the only one that was answered. Even if Gural doesn't get a casino "soon"----I think he may put together a group, a management company per se, as his succession or even more his continuity plan. The people who could and would be ideal candidates are not, simply because of their age and their own planning, but Gural will figure it out. Plus, in the end, it's a casino company that will be managing that side of the business. Personally, I hope he gets a casino. Somebody, some company will. Like I said, I think it's a 15 year time frame, perhaps less.

The time  line is when NY opens a casino across the river.  Then the wheels will start turning.

Excellent point. Well, you have Yonkers now, Aqueduct, Catskills, and the alleged "down-state" license is being bantered around now. There are some nuances that NY State should work out, but yes, if down-state gets a casino, that's simply more potential revenue NJ will lose. There was talk of the casino being in Long Island, possibly where Belmont and the new arena is, but I don't know how palatable that is with the residents.

35 years ago, Robert Brennan (who ended up going to jail) came up with an idea. He proposed to the State of NJ that a massive man-made lake be put in where the old backstretch, stable area, dorms, etc. was at the Meadowlands, and that each NJ casino company be offered a license to put in a "riverboat" casino and two or three new licensees----of course he wanted to be one of them. LOL. Personally, I thought it was a very interesting idea. There was also some recent talk about a casino being in Mahwah NJ on the site of a massive hotel that just shut down. There's always talk. But as I said, I think we will see a casino outside AC eventually.

Big pitch being made by the Sands for the Nassau Coliseum to become the hub of a casino/entertainment complex, going through the usual 48 political/environmental hoops, but the $$ to Nassau, Town of Hempstead, NY State and all of the other vultures will ultimately rule...and that is one BIG casino!!

"The project — which includes a 400,000-square-foot casino, two hotels, a convention center, retail and dining areas — requires a development lease from Nassau County, land-use approvals from the Town of Hempstead and a competitive gaming license from New York State."

Yes, I think AC's exclusivity will change over the next several years as NJ, and all of the "authorities" will see the flow of $$ sucked away by NY.

Resorts World Queens opened a center to display their 5 billion dollar plan.
Somehow, I think Steve Cohen's plan at Citipark may have a pulse...

here is how the 2016 referendum worked out

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_New_Jersey_casino_expansion_amendment

Gural has already lost at least $5mil trying to get a casino

everyone says what a genius he is--do you think he will continue to flush million$ down the toilet trying to get a casino that he wont get anytime soon?

Thank you for the link,  77% of NJ residents voted against a Casino ,a that’s quite an uphill battle
