Damn. Looked at the replays. The first race went off at 4:28. The 14th went off at 9:11. Nearly five hours to run 14 races.

And we wonder why nobody goes to the races anymore.  28 minutes of action packed into 5 hours!

T-Breds have 30 minutes between and take in millions.  It’s not the time, it’s the product.  I don’t know anyone that doesn’t think this game is horribly corrupt.  Why would people bet or want to invest?

decent article in hru on trying to shorten the time of the overall card, 10 minutes between races
sure as hell worth a shot
i admit on just a regular non stake card i get bored
most people dont know enough to need anymore than a few minutes to decide who they are betting on
the real gamblers have done their capping well before the card starts anyway so once it starts they are just watching odds and track bias etc
it is correct that tbreds get away with 20-30 minutes but clearly they operate differently than harness, also some of those smaller t bred tracks dont have as long a post time as the big tracks

We have an unique opportunity to bring the sport to anyone with an internet signal or cable subscription. But we're too dum to create brand where people would be enticed to follow and no doubt wager. It's that simple, create an captivating and compelling product and people will love it because people love to do two things: get behind a competitor and tell their friends why they are right. The answer isn't live attendance or casino welfare money, it's getting an audience to turn in---to do that you need a production company to market the product and we're too dumb to understand that, so the beat goes on. You'd think someone would have taken a look at what happened in Ontario and given some guidance to the tracks in the US. The stupidity is staggering

Sounds easy - but it’s not that easy.
Are product is boring - on or near the lead or forget about it. Also the amount of favorite that are one/two drive gimmick prices down.

We are an outdated - slow form of gambling that has struggled to gain new and younger fans for the last decades. And that was before more states came on board with casinos and sports betting.

From the great DN, legend of Horseplop… It’s a dead game laddie.

The public’s no longer cares about harness racing. You have a better chance bringing back Blockbuster Video stores. Go to any racino, the “product” is right there in front of you………….and nobody has any interest. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make him drink it. When was the last time you went to a track and COULND’T count all the fans in about 3 seconds?

Harness racing only exists in it's own slowly shrinking world.

and its existence will cease as more and more states decouple.

The runners aren’t much better… writing on the wall as the Gulfstream. Owners gave a deadline to find a buyer or it’s closed. Property is valued at $2 million an acre and they are running at break even.

I never mentioned it was going to easy. Lots of people have interest in racing and I suspect there are thousands more that would love it if given a reason why. Who ever thought millions would tune in to a singing competition but they did.
