not trying to split hairs here--but Ontario and Quebec get their oil and gas from Alberta--but a large part of the pipelines runs through the US--so Trump can cut them off

60% of ALL the oil the U.S. imports comes from Canada. While Canada does import oil from the U.S. , mostly for their refineries in Quebec and eastern Ontario, which are designed for WTI, Canada is, by far, the largest exporter of oil to the United States.
The biggest problem for the United States, the oil production in Canada is under provincial power. Ontario, in theory, could cut off the supply, as well as British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, where most of Canada's oil is produced. The United States is the biggest producer of oil in the world. However, the U.S. consumption of oil, far outweighs it's production.

lets be clear, intelligent people in the oil and gas industry in Canada have been pushing for a pipeline through Canada from the west to the eastern seaboards, this would not only allow these commodities to be transported across Canada while staying within Canada but also allow Canada oil and gas to be exported to other countries at a higher price
never happened why,?? left wing snowflake liberals and climate zealots and indigenous folks  would not allow any frogs or bunnies to be upended  or a tree to be cut down so the government would not proceed , well how is that looking now ...good work Justine !!

From the other thread.....

Much ado about nothing, because nobody knows how this is going to work and impact the horse industry, the BC, etc. This is no different than other governmental acts----just like the recent CTA (Corporate Transparency Act, passed, and effective as of Jan. 1, 2024). The law was passed, there were many unknowns, interpretations, etc. (and it even resulted in several lawsuits). Deadlines were extended, and even right up to the day before the last deadline, people still did not know what to do (file or not file, by March 21, 2025).

As far as the tariffs, and how they impact shipping (back and forth), and racing horses here and in Canada, at this point, nobody knows. All what is written here is conjecture, posturing, paranoia, negativity and criticism (which is the norm here in this forum), and the like. While it might be meaningless, tariffs are designed to be disincentive and prevent unfair business practices ("dumping" or illegal subsidies, rebates, etc., primarily given by governments or governmental bodies, agencies, etc.). Do they have other purposes? Absolutely. This is not anywhere close to clear and probably won't be any time soon.

Is this a complex situation and can a wide net catch unintended people and businesses? Abso-friggn-lutely.
