another side note about Nihilator--he had help

often there were 3 and 4 horse entries as Haughton also had Pershing Square, Chairman of the board and another decent 3yo setting picks and causing traffic problems for the others trying to beat Nihilator

I lived near Garden St Park and went a lot, I was there the night Armbro Dallas driven by Ron Waples upset Nihilator at about 80-1

the following week Nihilator destroyed the field in the final as if he was angry for losing

Very true. More than Haughton, Lou Guida had a very deep bench that year. Just in the Meadowlands Pace, Guida had a five horse entry-----Nihilator, Chairmanoftheboar d, Pershing Square, Primus, and Handsome Sum. Guida/Haughton won two of the three eliminations. Here's a trivia question for the veterans who may have been there.....Do you remember who won the third elimination? Here's a hint, it was not a Haughton OR Guida horse.

And, that same year, Guida also had Flight of Fire with Mickey McNichol and Joe Caraluzzi.

Hey, in the final.....as a bettor.....if you are very confident, you get a 5% ROR on a five horse entry to show!?!?! LOL.

the 1988 Jug. Mike LaChance piked him..53.4 to half

a very gutsy winning effort by BJ Scoot--under heavy pressure the entire mile

I remember the time Bo Scots Bluechip beat him at Monti.  I think it was a Monticello Pace elim.  Very conservative drive by Pat that day, lol.  Rest in Peace.  He did an amazing job with one of themost impactful horses and sires of all time.

As I've said before it was a great effort by LaChance and BJ Scoot. But that drive by Boring on Albert Albert was wretched.. one of the worst I've ever seen in person in that big of a race.

First Ohio bred to ever win the LBJ. That was the horse that really made Tom Artandi well known on the national/NA stage. It took a lot of guts to buy an Ohio bred for $250,000 (US) at the time. BJ Scoot's success really gave Artandi a lot of recognition and the firepower to come back and buy Goalie Jeff the next year.....yes, from George Berkner! He paid a lot more him though, LOL. But, Artandi won the JBG with him too! Jack Howell owned BJ Scoot as a 2yo, and the dam, Terry's Woe, who was a hell of a mare. She was something like a 100% producer of foals in 155 at the time. I think BJ Scoot's Jug win was his most impressive. Chris Boring getting parked to the half in 53 and 4 was brutal.

BJ Scoot tried to come back as a 4yo, but only raced a few times. He just wasn't good. He came back at 5 too, but he was a shadow of his former self.
