Claimed, lost, claimed back four times. Made money every time.

I had  a nice raceway trotter....never jumped always tried...nice to drive............ seldom won ..but always got checks. I had bought him for $ 11, 000  6 months earlier

My trainer dropped him in a $ 10,000 progressive claiming series......then told me.   I was out of town.
This was 15 years   ago.........and the purses were    $ 6000  1st leg....then the price tag became
$ 12,000
and the race went for $ 8000............. ...and the final ...no claiming went for $ 15,000.
 He said he was just another 10 claimer.......... ....but I thought differently....to o late

He finished 2nd in 1st leg........and got claimed

I came back to town...and told him I was going to claim him back....he said never do that !  Bad luck

He finished 2nd  in leg 2....made the Final....but I claimed him back  for $ 12,000

He won the final..going for $ 15,000....by 5 lengths

And in the next 2 years...he won the Open trot  3 times.......makin g over $ 45,000 each year........

Never had to do any serious vet work............a nd never made a break

This is gonna be zero help <> <>  I've done it twice * one time my little mare was better the second time around ... the other time, I could kick myself - I was happy to see him go - but, got him back on the cheap and remembered why I wanted him gone.

9 times outta 10 - it's a BAD idea

If you knew the answer to that, life would be easy! I've gotten horses back that were ruined in a week but I've also gotten one back, plugged him back in the same system and made a lot of money!
