It all depends what you mean by great mares. Did they become great because of God given ability or did they become known as "great" because of PED's. That is one of the reasons why rampant drug use is so detrimental to horse racing. Take a look back to someone like Brett Pelling. The guy developed a gazillion champions. Other than The Panderosa, correct me if I am wrong but I can't remember any champions in the breeding shed. Male or female.
