It WAS a witch hunt.

"Paying the legal fees out of their own pockets these last three years, Bob and Len stood up for horsemen and horsewomen everywhere against the limitless funds of PETA in its unique attempt to find another way to put an end to horse racing"

How else would you describe it ?
Fake.

Spent "Millions of their own dollars" to defend a  $31,000 suit they settle for $20k.

You believe THAT?

You got that backwards.  Allegedly PETA spent the millions.  No mention of how much the defendants paid their lawyers.

"After spending over a million dollars in legal fees and sending out dozens of subpoenas, PETA, by settling, finally acknowledged that it never really had a case against Mr. Bresnahan and Mr. Sodowsky and settled on behalf of gambler Jeffrey Tretter for the paltry sum of $12,500.  Additionally, as part of the settlement and mandated by Mr. Sodowsky, a donation of $7,500 will be made to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation."

Andrew Benedict, one of Bresnahan’s lawyers, described the case as “a David vs. Goliath type thing,” with PETA able to finance extensive litigation against two defendants who were not major figures in harness racing and had far fewer resources.

“It was rough for us to defend this case on all fronts, because of the amount of money that PETA was pouring into it,” he said. “It shows they had no evidence of criminal wrongdoing or they wouldn’t have settled so cheaply.”

Yeah this is a weird one.  Who's more wrong?  The alleged cheaters or the overzealous mega rich persecutor?
