Why only 4  1/2 months of racing for harness. Because we have only 1 harness track?

I can tell how many cards!

We raced harness racing at at least one Illinois track 363 days in a year!

The only days off were Christmas and Easter.

Not to mention the double headers in the winter at Hawthorne.

You left out Aurora Downs.

Where the mud was 6 inches deep on a rainy day and Andy's Coho would never lose in the slop. tmbz1

Hawthorne had covid delays and FBI check delays with so many family members on the racing end for a gaming license. The buildout to a casino slow played until Sept next year to gain another year of recapture. The purse account is 1.6mln in the hole with a few more days to go. Breakage this year won't help as much because there won't be the uncashed tickets the track and horsemen split. As long as tracks stay closed to patrons most of wagering is ADW which doesn't help the dark days. Maybe OTB's are opened and that helps a little selling the signal. Purses will be crappy again next year unless Careys extend some credit. Harness still has to bite fingernails that CDI upends Arlington. The only good news Careys and Hiner are still in discussions to open a only harness track racino but I didnt see the IRB giving any extra dates in 2021 so any deal on a new track could be two years out.
