Basically, what it comes down to is, he drove a lame horse (up front and on a line past the half) as if he were sound and still the best. It isn't so much the tactics he employed, they are defensible, but you don't drive a very unsound horse that way. he had tro know by the quarter the horse was no good today and once he yielded he should have just sat in and hoped he even finished safely. He drove for the tote board and that's rarely a good idea.
