Basically, what it comes down to is, he drove a lame horse (up front and on a line past the half) as if he were sound and still the best. It isn't so much the tactics he employed, they are defensible, but you don't drive a very unsound horse that way. he had tro know by the quarter the horse was no good today and once he yielded he should have just sat in and hoped he even finished safely. He drove for the tote board and that's rarely a good idea.

I understand what you are saying. I agree. But there are degrees of "unsoundness". The horse really should not have been raced today.

This is what I'm saying. Certainly the horse just did not become unsound. He was unsound in post parade or even in pre race warm up.

Hard to say why people push horses with clear soundness issues. but even Stevie Wonder could see that horse was unsound.
