About 15 years ago we went to the backstretch just to see the place. We drove right pass the nonexistent security guard. We spoke to an old trainer, Rene Thibideau, who died about a year later. He was very nice and told us to come into the winners circle, they have one?, if his horse won. Driver Mike Downey drove him to a 7th place finish unfortunately. The grandstand looked 100 years old. Funny thing happened in their final race, night racing back then. I boxed 3 horses in an exacta. At the 5/8th my 3/horses were on the lead and I can’t lose. A lightening bolt hit the track and the place went pitch black and never recovered. The race was declared no contest and returned all wagers, I guess they had a backup generator. Oh well and back to our Bar Harbor B&B we drove.
