You are correct.

Yes, Jim Martin had the horse at 2 (at Stampede) and he was blazing fast then.  Raced lightly and then over the winter Cassie took over.  At the time American Ideal was the fastest 3yo of all time.. buzzed off miles of 1:47.4 and 1:48.1 at 3.  Top racehorse and, as noted by others a top racehorse and broodmare sire.  Money stats as a sire are a bit inflated due to NY Sire Stakes, where he was one of only a handful of top names for almost a decade.
