With all the crap going on in Racing
« on: May 27, 2024, 06:59:59 PM »
Here's a feelgood story.

Self Assured (stable name Jimmy) has been taken care of by his groom Jimmy (Mark and Nathan Purdon stable) all of his racing career. The horse finished 2nd in the Auckland Cup to an Aussie horse last week and his Aussie owner, Jean Feiss retired him and has given him to Jimmy to take care of for the rest of his life.

The two jimmy's were inseparable.

As an 8 year old he was winless in 10 starts but had 6 seconds and a 3rd for $124,000. Most of that when running 2nd in his last start.

The owner said it was time to retire him because that's the way she is. She thinks of her horses first. He retires with 74 starts 30 wins 25 seconds and 8 thirds for $2,419,619.

Great to see people who care about their horses more than the money. It helps she is rich.

Nice story Tim  tmbz1 tmbz1

I am happy I found that as I just read that Majestic Man died.He often would beat the best sprinters in NZ over the mile. (Of course most races over there are at least 1 mile and a quarter).

He retired to a farm with another horse. They were best buddies and he ran into a fence which he has never done. They didn't elaborate but I guess the injuries were too much to overcome.  He was 9yo and won 24 races and 855,000.

One good thing about the racing down under. If you get caught doping, the penalties are way more severe. In Australia if you do something wrong, you get the book thrown at you.

They have the Racing Integrity Unit in NZ that governs all types of racing,

Then there's the ASSHOLE in NZ who was convicted of 11 counts of animal cruelty after the SPCA installed cameras and an appelate judge in NZ overturned his conviction saying the cameras were illegal.

That fucker should have done to him what he did to the horses.
