Who wins the LBJ?
« on: September 17, 2024, 09:22:23 AM »
I'm sure most of you have seen the draw.. will it be Legendary,Nijinsky or an upset winner such as Captain's Quarters who drew the rail or Captain Albano.

Nijinski is going to be tough to beat, but I also really like Captians Quarters.  He's overly due for a big win and fresh.

Albano Lame,  Captains Quarts isn't the horse you think as well at toting 275pds around won't help, Legendary has no chance to win.  Nnjisky will win in a sleeper.  Not even worth a watch this yr.  It's a very bad crop of 3yo's and it's not an even competition to make it fun.  Ninjisky 1/9 No tetrick, no Yannick = no action

A few of these comments didn't age well lol.. Captain Albano looked very impressive. I'm Glad the yogurt queen didn't win.. Also 2 very good drives by McCarthy. I spoke to him after the race.. really nice guy. Very humble. You could tell he was thrilled to win the jug. In a few years he might surpass Andrew. Maybe Captain Albano is getting back his 2 year old form where he won 7 out of 9 and banked half a million.

Albano was shockingly good.  Looked sound and great gaited.  taking the hopples up looked like it really clean up his gait.  Rarely but sometimes you let hopples out too far and it will actually tire a horse out and also get them fumbly gaited.  If he stays like that rest of year he's a player.  Legendary was no shocker.  He's so over rated and every driver knows he will not pass unless it's given to him.  in the ellim they were pacing hard down the backside and he want no part of that.  He won't win another race rest of year unless he's in a cheap overnight.

It's all good Miguel ate his crow lol.. I mentioned at the beginning of the thread Captain Albano as an upset possibility. I had him in the pick 4 and on top in the final.. but Captain's Quarters died like a dog and cost me the superfecta. He might need another race or 2 to get up to speed.

Todd has already surpassed Andrew. He's much more aggressive too!

brown jug and delaware  is still the best from an entertainment perspective
they need to get back to $1m and get 3 fields of 8
at what other event for harness do that many people get together

this saturday at mohawk is one of the best cards of the year anywhere
they will be lucky to have 1,000 people on site counting the owners in the dining room

Roy and Macdonald drove it like it was flamboro or london

this is The Jug--a horse of another color

some horses get locked in the pocket-some cant handle the superfast pace and positioning

some cant handle the configuration

both Nijinsky and Legendary would have faired better with Scotty D, not saying they would have won--but they would have had a fair shot--neither Nijinksy or Legendary looked like a winner at any point--as soon as the gate left both had no chance

The banking on that track is steep which is why it's so fast of course. I said in a previous thread that Roy and Macdonald not having any experience there at all was a huge red flag. Roy's drive on Nijinsky was awful. He tried to leave and that horse isn't a leaver. He came away 3rd which is the worst spot on that track.. you are either first over or Boxed in. So he came first over and started to drop back pretty quickly. It wouldn't surprise me if Nijinsky scopes sick or has a bleed going on. Legendary just didn't have it.. Great trip from 6 hole in the final.. coming second over and he could only manage 3rd. I've witnessed alot of upsets there over the years and this one adds to the list.
