Agree, he is a total professional. Finish line at Northfield is hard to judge when horses come up the passing lane and others are wide when crossing. I used to call the Giss and complain I was robbed until I realized how much of an illusion the Northfield wire can be.
My opinion is the Northfield announcer is fine. The guys rotating through Yonkers are for the most part - awful. Some of them try to make EVERY race sound like the Hambo finals. The two most consistent announcers (IMHO) are Ken Warkentin at the Meadowlands and Mike Sardella at Saratoga. Both have their own styles and seem to call most every race with the right "pace" (get it?) for that particular race. At Monticello, Howard Oil calls EVERY race with the same exact way....just changes the horses names. Although one day last winter, Howard said the lead horse had "an insurmountable lead" at the half.......that horse didn't hit the board by the finish...... LOL
Howard Oil's imaginary calls at Yonkers 40+ years ago were outstanding. Unfortunately that was the apex of his career.
TOO CLOSE TO CALL!!!! (half length between em)
