George Washington had a brother too.
Ever hear of him?

The Washington male line was short in longevity, believe George survived the longest. George didn't have any heirs.

you r looking at it wrong. Buy foals out of families. Maternal ones. I bought a mare out of the Dolly B family. All I had marked in my book were yearlings out of that family. I had just been the underbidder on a filly that Huntrton had in the sale, dropped out at $20,000. A couple of yearlings latter one that I had marked out of the same family that I fortunately had not looked at , I knocked down for $10,000.That mare was the 3rd foal out of her dam, VERY hard to handle but won the Indiana sires stake final at 2 and three and went on to win $983,000. Three other of her sisters won sires stake finals. One befor her and two after her. All four by different sires. The filly I dropped out on, died in winter training. She was gorgeous. The one I bought shied from everything. I was lucky I went to Florida and was able to put her on the starting gate a  lot or she never would have raced at two. She had to stop racing three times for an entrapped epiglotis and have it operated on .If I had looked at her I wouldn't have messed with her. Too much of a handfull. The sisters after her were Always about Katy and topville caddilac.

Agree that the material side is more the key.  Especially with those super mares.  If they raced or had not raced you see there production of 6 or 7 foals having earned over 100k plus.  And earners after thoses.  Many of times to many different sires.  It's that blood that has carried the line.  Agree with Adam that a mare that has turned one good one in four or five foals I will just turn the page no matter the Sire.  Will let someone else try there luck.  It may work out you never know the full circumstances of the ones that failed.  I like first foals or a second one that at least made the track.  Even those super mares will throw a star 10 or 11 horses deep like Trixton.  Full brothers or sisters are a expensive adventures usually for the big owners.

i bought the 3yo half brother to walner in july. he is an andover hall. i don't have the investment of the previous owners and he is eligible to many late closers. he's had a good start so we will see. i believe in good family backgrounds but i knew little about walner when i bought his brother. go elmo blatch!

One very important thing not listed in the catalog is the name of trainer when the mare took her mark.  Lots of counterfeit mares out there.

you kidding me?

Here is a story dan dube told  me. at blue bonnets in montreal he drove a magna force  mare named amour angus. he said she was a really good   4 claimer  but couldn't beat the 5s.  when bred to garland lobell however, she produced brothers Conway hall, angus hall, and andover hall and  one sister also, Emilie cas el who you might know  better  as the dam of trixton. sometime the stars align in a certain cross.

Very good point, I sometimes think if the mare raced in certain barns I do not want any of their offspring.  I prefer my horses with one head. I think a lot of horses bring money from mares with great times but if they take them at Pocono now what does the time really mean anymore?  Even a 7500 filly claimer might pace 152 and change

I was amazed how good records many of the mares that were bred in Indiana and Ohio were this year...that is on the pacer side.  The Trotting mares are so much harder to find.
