Time for the racing at the Meadowlands to end?
« on: June 09, 2018, 08:55:13 AM »
  With a guaranteed winner in Sports betting soon to become law in New Jersey, why run a racing meet where you do nothing but lose money?  I cant see any reason to keep the track open as long as it loses millions.
  I don't think there is any provisions in the Sports Betting Legislation that requires the Meadowlands to run a racing meet to be the house in a sports book operation. Jeff "the Bookie" Gural. who would have thunk it

 "Former" racetracks will also qualify to host sports betting

As for all who are convinced sports betting will be a major money maker, it will. But, not for everyone. First off, the take is less than 10% to be distributed to all entities involved. Yes, the overhead of running a book is nothing close to running a racetrack. But, to split the 10% between the state and local governments, the host and the operating partner and quite possibly the league or teams bet on.
 Also, with the internet wagering, there will be a bevy of books looking to cash in. it will be interesting over the initial stages.
 Oh, BTW, horsemen will get zero revenue from this stream.

 I HOPE JEWFERRY SHUTS THE RACING DOWN BECAUSE HORSEMEN AND THE INDUSTRY DISPESPECTED HIM, AND KEEPS THE SPORTS BOOK OPEN FOR HIMSELF

“former racetrack” means any former racetrack where a horse race meeting was conducted within 15 years prior to the effective date of P.L.2014, c.62 (C.5:12A-7 et seq.), excluding premises other than the land contained within the racecourse oval;

A current racetrack can’t become a former one.

Says who? The language seems pretty plain.

Edit: Not saying that it can't revert to a former one in the sense that it'd be like AC racecourse but there's nothing in that language that states it needs racing to have a license going forward.

My question is with the handle being over 2 mil on some nites & they say their not making any money what does the handle have to be 5 mil.Think that 3/4 of tracks had that handle they wouldn't be in the red.

 I think the state of New Jersey should be looking to get rid of Jeff Gural. He is bad for business, he has angered so many influential people in the business. There are many people who live in Jersey own horses, and race them everywhere BUT New Jersey

They lose money because tellers are still making $30 an hour for a minimum wage job...same people have been there 30 years.

Not true, first thing Gural did, was get contract concessions from the union
