It would be kind of easy to see if something was up. If the meet has the data available, I could probably even do some tests to see what comes up. Many of the defenses were such "well claim him and do better" about McKnight jamming horses in. So, how do Mcknight horses do off the claim? How do they perform off the claim for trainers with high off the claim percentages? How do his runner's speed figures compare to the average historical runners in those classes? How about other horses making similar drops? There about a 1000 points of data you could look at and come up with a profile that is too anomalous to have the 'clean' trainer theory hold water. Then again, it could exonerate him.
