We have an opportunity here to grow our sport, a one time shot.  Harness horses don't break cannon bones, fetlock joints etc and when they have a serious injury they SURVIVE.  I don't know the actual numbers for thoroughbreds, maybe someone here can tell us all but I believe the yearly number of DEATHS is astronomical.  How about we push our sport as the sport that takes care of its horses.  Our sport is safe despite all of the dangers of racing.  Educate people that harness racing does not harm the horse whereas runners, well lets face it, those guys don't give a crap.  They'll  put one down, buy another and write it off.

   I must agree with ya! Harness Racing hit the Iceberg a long time ago....the life supports are being unplugged as we speak. I thought it would be long gone by now, but after being dealt the latest most serious of blows, she's sinking like a sunset.

I will assume the gambling dollars will take a hit when racing resumes. People might get the itch when it opens back up but the longer this takes the more people will develop other hobbies and interest in racing will fade. Especially if the tracks open up with a zero attendance policy. Lets face the facts, the average age of a bettor in harness would be what, 60? This is the demographic more worried about the old Covid-19 & the portion of the betting public who have little to no online knowledge.

Personally, I won't be betting anything the first month or so to see the pattern cycles return etc with the exception of baby races.
